Default How do you crop photos for gallery?

How does everyone get such nicely cropped card photos for the gallery?

I take a digital picture, but they come out best with a border around them. If it is too close it looks like it's right in your face.

Any tips? Are these scanned? Special software?

Thanks!

Mary

They're probably scanned for the most part, but even those must be cropped so you don't end up with a tiny little image in the corner of a big area of white space. I don't have a scanner, so I use a digital camera and then crop out any extra stuff around the photo using Photoshop.

I take digital pictures of all my cards, I don't own a scanner. And I use the photo editing software that came with my camera to crop and resize all the pictures I take for this site. Most cameras come with the software, and most programs are pretty simple to use, at least my experience with the 3 digital cameras we have had over the years.

One thing about taking the photos that is crucial is to take your pictures in the best light possible. Not necessarily the brightest light because that can wash the color away. I use a combination of lighting, natural light through the daylight that comes into the room, florescent from the lamp on the table I shoot, and halogen from the can lights in the room. For me, it works pretty well.

I hope this helps,

Valerie

you may not want to invest in Photoshop if that's what you are going to use it for. . . too much money. Go with the option of using the software that came with your camera. For cropping, resizing and color correcting- it will do just fine.
