Has there been any further discussion about the possibility of having a Current Conversations block on the home page for the Demos Only Forums? I think with the number of demos that we now have using this site almost exclusively (Yippee!!) it would seem that having that feature would be beneficial to many.
I totally agree! I have tried to go to demo's only forum and I don't think that I have ever done it right because nothing seems to change when I go and click on it. Having something on the home page would be great!
Thanks,
Cheryl
I saw a small thread about this a while back also. Can we do it, please please? There was a separate one for convention, right? It would be so much easier!
I would LOVE to see this option put on the home page. I forget to look in the demonstrator only forum and I think many other demos do as well. We would get a lot better response to our questions if it was more "in our face" on the front page!

This is another one of those things on that ever-growing list of Daven's. I think (thinking is dangerous!) he will probably need to get a quote from Tom to find out how much it will set splitcoast back to do that change - time wise, etc.
I don't want to open up a whole can of worms, but would it help if we did a donation type thing (like we did with the DD Gallery)? I know it would be worth a few bucks to me - especially since this would then become a "one stop shop" so to speak for demos!!
Keep us filled in - you know we want to help. This site is so awesome!

Ditto.
Hey - how about a contest - send in $40 with a stamped card and have a chance to win a prize - like a WOW! category that SU does with demos. The $40 will go toward the website and the prize can be ... oh anything; I think most of us are easy to please.
I have chosen NOT to lurk on SD (Stampin' Discuss) for the following reasons:
You can NOT edit your posts in their forum
You can NOT delete your posts in their forum
You can NOT attach files in their forum
You can ABSOLUTELY NOT download files in their forum
That says it all. Plus you gals are the best. Daven included.

P.S. oh and one more: PROPER NOUNS. Need I say more.
we've got a short list, a long list, an unbelievably-long list, and then a HOLY COW list. adding more personalization to the home page such that your own posts show up, your own user groups (including demos group) show up, etc. etc., is on either the short list or the long list, depending on a coupla' decisions I have to make.
back when nobody *used* the forums this wasn't much of an issue :^) nowadays it would certainly be nice to have everything right in front of you on the home page. if you've got any specific ideas related to this type of stuff, feel free to send them along.
Great idea. I'm always forgetting to check the demo only forum (I get so engrossed with the current news that 2-3 hours later...)
What about this...SU! should just put the SCS gurus on payroll and make this a SU! funded site seeing that Stampin' Discuss is quickly becoming obsolete. Do you think Shelli will go for it? Maybe we can toss the idea her way at Regionals.
I am sooooo in favor of more personalization on the home page! THANKS, DAVEN!
Let me just say -- I am pretty cheap when it comes to joining up and sending my subscription money in, but as soon as I became a demo, I *knew* that the ONLY right thing to do would be to send some bucks to SCS!
This place is waaaaay better than the Stampin' Discuss forum -- the setup is just much, much more user friendly!
I would like to see more personalization options on sorting of the forums -- for example, if we want, we could have the demo-only discussions listed at the top of the forum page, for instance. And maybe if we could see a snippet of the most recent post, instead of just the poster's user name and the time and they posted? I personally don't find much use in knowing the user name of the most recent poster.
Also, maybe it would be cool to be able to "show all posts since (number) of hours"? I'm on a couple of other boards where you can ask for the board to only show you that, and as I KNOW some folks spend all DAY here, I'm sure asking for the posts that way would be GREAT! (You could set a default where it would only ask for the posts within the past number of hours, up to say, 12?)
Daven, you guys rock! I love this board! I love how the gallery and the forums are so closely interconnected. Even before I became a demo, I learned so much here -- I kept wondering: What else could there be??? I had NO CLUE that the demo-only forums were so helpful!!!
Thank you again, SCS folks, for all your hard work. I appreciate it.
I never frequented the Stampin Discuss Forum so I can't compare but need I say more?? LOL
I love this place, and don't you know Daven is the coolest about trying to make us all happy! Thanks D! Did I mention I LOVE my write up on the homepage? You are GREAT!
Gosh that would be great....especially for us new demos that need help with stuff. Most of the time we get a few replies to our questions, but it would help if the demos that are experience saw that stuff on the home page and then would be more likely to offer their two cents......
I like what Daven said about the "short list, a long list, an unbelievably-long list, and then a HOLY COW list" . . . . there are just so many things to do that would make everyone here happy!

Do not forget ~ SU censors posts. I commented yesterday that a link posted crashed my computer and the post was never added. What is so wrong with that? And believe me, it wasn't harshly worded, it was more like "I tried the link posted, this silly iMac I'm on crashes everytime I click it, blah, blah....." nothing offensive, just a slam against this iMac.
And we shouldn't forget that it takes hours to update and isn't available on the weekends when a lot of people could really use it.
I do have to say though, I wouldn't be able to pay $40 (can't even afford the $20). That's 4 hours work here, not making a ton of money so I break everything down to a dollar per hour cost. There are months, during this rebuilding, that I've had to pay to stay a demo and that hit hard around our house. But then again, I'm happy with how things are.
I love this website and personally would hate for SU! to get their corporate hands on it. As many of you know, this site would no longer be the same if SU! had their say in it. Everyone involved who put this site together is doing a fabulous job! Thank you!
Jill
So im not a demo, does that mean id have to go into the forums (which totally confuses me) to find the new things that have been posted??LOL
Christy
Christy - we have been thinking on adding user-specific info on the front page. So if you are in the demo group, you will be able to see the latests posts in that forum on the front page. You probably would not see a difference.
It would be a good thing for demos to keep up on business-related posts that we try really hard to keep in the demo-only forum. . . . those posts to make the front page like General Discussion posts do. You have to go looking for them!

In my post (jan.stamp) what I wanted to say (but bumbled along the way) is that I wish Daven and the rest of our leaders would get paid by SU! for all their hard work in running this almost exclusive SU! related site--but I definitely wouldn't want them to take over and impose their ideas. I know, wishful thinking.
Did you guys know that Daven doesn't get paid (well, if you count adulation & appreciation, then he does ;)) for what he does to keep over 13,000 people happy? Isn't that amazing? He & Tracy started this out of their own pocket - check out the About page for the story of how scs came to be. The donations that he's received have gone into paying pros like Tom to do the heavy server work and to defray the cost of keeping splitcoast going. He's really trying to keep this a non-fee-based site, and clicking on the non-obtrusive google ads helps. The direct donations also help tremendously. He probably also is cringing as I am saying that he needs money to keep it afloat!
Getting paid to maintain this place? Wow. What a dream!
Someone very kindly pointed out that not everyone can donate to splitcoast. I certainly did not mean to offend anyone who can't donate, and apologize if I did offend you. Whether you donate or not, this site is for you all to enjoy!
There is another way you can support this site if you can't send a donation:
Click on Google ads! I'm not sure of how much revenue is generated by them, but every bit counts! Here's an article posted by Daven back in November. Forums at Splitcoaststampers
It explains how the site gets some revenue from users clicking on the ads up at the top of the forum & gallery pages.
It helps just to click on the ads? I mean we don't need to buy anything to have it help? I will click on an ad everytime I change pages if that helps!!! I thought for it to make a difference I would have to purchase from the site it brings me to!
