You're currently viewing Splitcoaststampers as a GUEST. We pride ourselves on being great hosts, but guests have limited access to some of our incredible artwork, our lively forums and other super cool features of the site! You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
One of the most challenging components of my artistic journey has been color selection and color combinations. I remember starting out with very limited color palettes on my cards and scrapbook pages; either monochromatic (single color and/or shades of the same color), or dual color palettes (just two colors and maybe a neutral). As I grew more confident I progressed to using as many as 4 colors on a card - but that was a bit risky for me unless I was working with DSP. Well, I don’t remember exactly when, maybe a year or two ago, I found this weeks site Design-Seeds.com. I started by browsing the site, and testing out color palettes that worked with my collection of inks and paper. I made a habit of printing out the ones that work best for me; (carefully penciling in the names of the Stampin’ Up! colors that matched), and then adhering them to pages of my own color journal (a small Moleskine journal). I know you will also enjoy creating from the many color palettes which are all wonderfully accompanied with gorgeous inspirational photography! FYI: There is also a SEARCH tool at the front of the top navigation to search for your favorite colors or color themes - and that's handy! Don’t feel obligated to use every color in each color palette, you can also choose just a couple from each palette - or to be inspired by the photo itself - I found you really can’t go wrong either way. Please, play along with me, and find your own special inspiration from Design-Seeds.com this week.
Challenge Goals: Don't be tempted to upload a card that you have made prior to this challenge, just because a color palette on the site reminds you of it. Rather, take the challenge of allowing your creative juices to flow based on your impressions when you look through the colors and images. Remember, once you select a palette, you don’t have to use the entire color scheme, you may decide instead to use just two or three of the colors - or to take a completely different route and just be inspired by the photography. Whatever draws you to the designs, take the challenge of doing something uniquely inspired today .
Please remember that all inspiration links should be inspired by images from the Design-Seeds.com site.
Use the keyword: IC424 (no spaces or extra characters) when you upload your card, and make sure you put commas between your key words.
For those of you who say you get overwhelmed with having too many images to choose from, I've uploaded five of my favorites … so just stick with one (or all) of those for your inspiration. Click on the images below to see them bigger. Please let us know which photo served as your inspiration piece.
How to Play ~ View the attached images. You may be inspired to recreate the pieces ~ but that isn't necessary ... get your inspiration from the colors, layout, style or 'theme'. Just enjoy wherever your inspired creative journey takes you. Remember, if you are inspired by the creation of another artist, please do not use print-outs of the art in your creation or directly copy their work. Make the inspiration piece your own. Don't worry ~ no card is 'wrong' and there is no time limit for uploading your card for the challenge. There are no rules, so let your creative juices run wild ~ be *inspired* and go get stamping!
Don't forget about No Upload Sunday - Let's give the gallery moderators a day off and not upload on Sunday (unless, of course, you are a Fan Club member - yet another reason to spend a little money on your favorite site). Also, remember to link to your SCS gallery on this thread. Thank you for joining me on this inspiration journey.
Phew - thank goodness for saying we don't have to use all the colours in the palettes! Colour challenges freak me out, but I've found something that I can certainly pick 3 colours plus photo inspiration from, and I'll try to think of something while I do the housework this morning.
It's a gorgeous and totally fascinating site - it's only the actual translating colours onto cards that paralyses me.

I just love the nature hues for 1-18-14 and came up with this card, using a snowman image from my stamping friends. Added a washi tape border, and a tape/sticker embellie. Here's Lantern Snowman

I wasn't sure I'd have time to make a card, and won't get much commenting done as I have a sore back and am heading to bed as soon as I've practiced some songs for tomorrow.
Here's my Savannah Thanks

I was inspired by the feathered palette- I used a cute rooster stamp from Basic Grey, showing through the card's window- cut with a SB label die- and added a ribbon, washi tape, and adhesive gems. Here's Ruler of the Roost

This is one awesome website! I could have spend hours looking at the color combination. Thanks for such a fun challenge.
Here is mine: Bandana Technique
Thanks, Audrie. There sure are some gorgeous combinations on this site. I never realized just how important COLOR is to me. It did hit me one day that I comment an awful lot on color and it's a big deal. Thanks for the site. Here's my card.
