The Piercing Question....What the heck do I do with this thing?
This week's ways to use it challenge is inspired by teaready, as well as my previously unopened package that I ordered a few months ago!:???: This week the challenge is to use your paper piercing template/mat pack and please show me some ways to use it! I love the faux sewing look but I hope that someone will show me how to use those larger holes too!
As I said before, I just opened my package that has been sitting there for months and used it to lay out brads:rolleyes: Here is my card and I'm hoping you all will inspire me to try something a little more advanced.
Yep! It's at the bottom of page 228 in the current catty. You can buy it as part of the crafters tool kit or buy itself as the mat pack.
Sweet! From what I can see from the little picture, the big holes look useless. OK ladies, I want to see what you can do with the big holes too! Should I buy this template?
GEEZZ, I should have never looked! Now I'll be up all night racking my brain to figure out what to do with this challenge (and those big holes)! I have had the kit for a year and never wondered what those big holes were for, even when demoing the tools!!!LOL

I've been looking at all the wonderful straight piercing on the sketch challenges and was about to write and ask if there was a template of sorts. This looks like fun, I'll be lurking about watching today!

I LOVE MY paper piercer!!! I made a card last night using it, but I can't upload it, it's going to my friend for her birthday tomorrow, and she is a fellow stamper and SCSer. Hopefully she will upload it, I love love how it turned out!!!

I will have to see if you gals can convince Jen to buy the template or not...I may just *need* one too! ;) Show us what you can do ladies...
Great timing! My mat pack is in an order that should be on it's way! I'm hoping to have it by Friday. I have no idea what the big holes are for.
It's totally cracking me up how the challenges get posted earlier and earlier. Pretty soon the Thursday challenge will be posted on Mondays! LOL!!!!! Thanks for hosting Julia.

The big holes are to help you line up your big and small eyelets.
You use the template as a guide, and then use the hammer and hole punch for the appropriate size. This way you can easily have neatly lined up eyelet trios as embellishments at the bottom of your cards.

I was just thinking that I need to get that pack..... I did my first faux stitching yesterday for the tall card sketch and I used a ruler as my guide. A bit primitive, I guess, and a little time consuming, but it turned out pretty well.
I will try something else too, but here's what I did yesterday:

In my defense.... it was just over an hour early here in Ontario and baby has been getting me up so much in the night, I didn't know if I would be functioning this morning! He did manage to get one tooth through yesterday so he did sleep a little better.
Julia - to hijack a bit - in the description of your card you said you sanded the edge of the striped paper. I understand sanding the paper for the faux linen look, but don't quite know what you mean by doing the edge.
The card looks great, by the way.

Thanks! I sanded the top surface of the paper at the edges to get a distressed look with the white showing through. I love this idea...i tried it out a few challenges ago...the one for the designer paper.
Hi, I am very new to all this, but I just want you all to know that the card done by JJStamper is great! I have the the tool kit with the template but have never used it. I took it out and put it in one of those places where I would find it if I ever wanted it---I can't find it. I think I will spend more time today looking.
Thank you for the information about the paper piercing/mat template. I learn something new from all of you everyday ! Now I know what to get in my next order! (Like a didn't have any ideas before? LOL!)
If you look on the piercing guide in the mat pack, the holes are actually labeled! The largest ones say for lining up large eyelets. But I don't normally use large eyelets, because I don't have a punch the right size. I have to use my 1/8" punch & add a couple of half punches in order to get a bigger hole. The 1/4" punch is really too big. What does everyone else use?
Well I don't have the mat pack yet...but it will be a must have for stamp club next month. maybe I can do a little "faux ways to use it" in the mean time. heeheehee.

Sure...we're always looking for new creative ideas!
I have the Mat Pack (piercing template and the eyelet setting mats) but I don't have the actual piercing tool, so I use thumbtacks to make holes. Works pretty well!

I actually got my paper piercer at Meijers (but have seen them at Michaels and Hobby Lobby too). Making Memories makes them and sells them individually (mine was about $2.49). They didn't have the mat pack so I will have to get that from SU!.

I started scrapbooking before I ever heard of SU so mine is the Making Memories piercer from Michael's. I bought it as part of the tool kit, but then it went missing on my desk:rolleyes: imagine that! So I bought another one...found the first so now I have too. Anyways, you can buy them very cheap at Michaels and then if you want to, buy the mat pack from SU when you can...that's what I did.
BTW...everyone is commenting on my faux stitching...it's actually real. I must confess...the only thing I used the mat pack for was for piercing and lining up the brads (I think I said this on the card). I will make another "less lame" card for the challenge. I need to see what everyone is doing first...we are having the challenge because I have no idea this time!
I can't currently upload to show you this, but Linda Hansen demo'd this in Memphis.
You can use the eyelet holes and gel pen to make a row of dots. It looks great!
Melody - SU!'s tool kit has 2 eyelet setters - 1 for the 1/8" size and 1 for the larger size (whatever that is) That's what I use for the large eyelets.

Did she use the gel pen to color the eyelet holes in?
