First off I adore this envelope, so pretty with the matching paper. Second, someone was saying it cost more to mail a square card and I thought, well that is crazy, surely not. Yes it does, I went and looked and they cant use their machines to sort it so they charge you .12cents more to mail it. Crazy I know but there you go.

I love this idea! I think it would be nice to use an edge punch on the flap as well.
Thanks for sharing.

One of the reasons I avoided making square cards was because of the envelop challenge. Good thinking!

Thanks so much for the love, everyone!

I do realize that square envelopes cost more to mail; but it's totally worth it to me. I {heart} square cards. You could simply slip your card and envie into a long envie, and avoid paying the extra if you like. wink

Your the bomb Cindy! I will have to try that anytime I want a matching envelope or when I want to make a square from a bigger one.
So quick and easy!!

Is it true that you have to pay extra postage on square envelopes ? Does anyone know ? This is such an adorable idea.
Thanks, Sharon

Yes - it is true you pay more for square envelopes - but not only that. You just about need a college education to determine if your card is classified as standard these days. I had a birthday card returned to me 5 WEEKS after I mailed it for insufficient postage due to a bump in the envelope. IE: a foam dot if you can believe that! The number of things that won't go through a machine is unreal and it will cost you a minimum of 20 cents - thats for square, bumps and irregular sizes or shapes to name just a few. Pony Express riders would be shocked - wind and hail and darkest night are no longer a slogan for the post office to live by unless they charge you big time for it. Their price list is now 52 pages long and that does not include the attachments that explain excess charges like noted above...
By the way Cindy - great idea for making envelopes to fit. Thanks!

Lura, That is so true. Every time I mail the same size small package it costs a different amount. I think I just read that if it is thicker then 1/8 inch thick it is 20 cents more. Add 20 cents for a different shape, another 20 cents for a smiggen over 1 ounce, and if it is smaller then their alloted size add another 20 cents. So that looks like a total of 80 cents plus the original 44 cents. Wow ! Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I think it is cheaper to make memory albums now. Thanks again Cindy. You made this so simple I will use it no matter what the postage. Ha Ha ! Sharon

Fabulous idea, Cindy! I, too, hate putting square cards in regular envies. Thanks for the great tutorial!
