Stencil Monoprints

by Lee-Anne Cross

Ink up a stencil for a unique and colorful monoprint.

Supplies

  • Stencils (the Crafter’s Workshop TCW554 Butterfly Collage used here)
  • Distress Inks or Paints, or other water-soluble medium
  • Watercolor paper or cardstock
  • Rag or paper towel
  • Water mister
  • Craft mat
  • Other supplies as needed to complete the card (Stamps, sequins, adhesive and cardstock used here)

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Place stencil upside down on craft mat.

  2. Step 2

Add two, three or four colors of Distress Inks directly to the stencil.

  3. Step 3

Mist the inked stencil liberally with water.

  4. Step 4

Turn stencil over onto watercolor cardstock.

  5. Step 5

Press down with rag or paper towel to allow watercolor paper to absorb inks/water and to remove excess water.

  6. Step 6

    Remove stencil and gently blot.

  7. Step 7

Air dry or use a heat tool to dry.

  8. Step 8

Use the finished monoprint to complete a project.

Oh, Lee-Anne, I love your video and hopped over after seeing Nancy Stizlow's card with your technique. It's fabulous, and I will definitely have to try it. I love the stencil you've used and am so glad Dina added it. Thanks, sweet friend! Hugs!

Thank you for the tutorial and wonderful technique. (You're very good at this - calm, clear voice and complete instructions.)

Do you happen to remember the name of the stencil with the little messy circles?

Hi, Beth! Thank you! It's from Stencil Girl and is called Inky Circles

Thank you so much, Lee-Anne! I should have thought of that; my LSS carries Stencil Girl. Their stencils do have that terrific casual/messy vibe. : )
