Scrape Painting

by Karen Dunbrook

Scrape acrylic paint in a circle for a unique background.

Supplies

  • Cardstock or watercolour paper (white heavy weight 110lb cardstock used here)
  • Acrylic paint (Vicki Boutin Acrylic Paint, Liquitex Acrylic Paint used here)
  • Straight edged scraper (Deco Foil Stencil Pal used here; old gift card or large craft stick can also be used)
  • Paper towels or wipes
  • Other supplies as needed to complete the project (used here: Art Journey "Nature Flowers" rubber stamp set, clear embossing powder, Versafine Clair ink, MISTI)

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Position your cardstock on your work surface making sure you have enough room to turn and move your hand or the panel if needed.

  2. Step 2

Apply SMALL drops of paint randomly onto your cardstock panel by dripping the paint on or by using a paint brush to apply dots of paint.

  3. Step 3

Place a spreader or an old gift card edge down into the center of your panel over the paint.

  4. Step 4

Rotate your tool holding your paper in the same spot; go around in a circular motion.

Try to go around as few times as possible to cover your paper to avoid a muddy appearance.

Carefully wipe away any excess paint from your cardstock.

Try to work quickly before the paint has a chance to dry.

  5. Step 5

Let dry completely before stamping onto your painted circle.

  6. Step 6

    Complete the project.
