Embossing Fabric with Stamps

by Betty Traciak

Create beautiful embossed plush fabric with a rubber stamp and heat.

Supplies

  • Rubber stamp with a bold design (Stampin' Up! Rays of Light used here)

  • 100% polyester plush fabric (Shannon Fabrics Minky Cuddle used here)

  • Pressing Cloth - any lightweight cotton fabric

  • Iron

  • Water

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Place stamp on heat resistant surface with rubber side facing up. A bold stamp works best for this technique.

  2. Step 2

Center plush fabric right-side down over stamp.

  3. Step 3

Cover with pressing cloth that has been moistened with water.

  4. Step 4

Using pre-heated iron set to cotton setting press all areas. Lift the iron before moving to the next area being careful not to move the fabric.

  5. Step 5

Cool for a few minutes before removing fabric from stamp.

  6. Step 6

Use the embossed fabric on a card.

Will this technique only work on red rubber stamps?

This is a fun way to get texture and the design.

In reply to DBStokes - I have only used red rubber. I have read that photopolymer stamps can be damaged by heat.
