Collage with Stamps & Dies

by Lydia Fiedler

Community Manager Lydia Fiedler will teach you how to use a basic collage technique to add texture, pattern and interest to stamped and die cut images.

Supplies

For a detailed supply list - please see the video description by clicking "More" in the description area on YouTube.
  • Music or book pages

  • Matte medium

  • Matte gesso

  • Watercolor pencils

  • Stamps and dies

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Tear a small print book or music page into small pieces that make sense for the size of the stamp image that will be used.

  2. Step 2

Adhere the small pieces of text/music to a piece of cardstock using matte medium. Be sure to overlap the pieces. Let this dry completely.

  3. Step 3

Coat the collage piece with matte gesso until you have the amount of pattern you like showing through the gesso.

  4. It's very subtle here, so it uses a thicker layer. This unifies the collage background and makes the pattern more subtle. The matte surface is important if you are coloring the images. Allow to dry completely without heat.

  5. Step 4

Stamp on the finished collage piece, color and die cut the image.

  6. Step 5

    Finish the card

  7. You can also use your prepared collage material on just part of a stamp image as an accent.
