Badge Holder Minibook

by Sarah Moore

Use badge holders to create a darling mini album.

Supplies

  • Badge Holders (Can be found at Walmart or major office supply stores in a horizontal or vertical layout)
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Crop-a-dile™ (or “industrial” style hole punch)
  • Binder Clips (clothes pins or a rubber band will also work)
  • Loose Leaf Binder Ring or Small Ball Chain
  • Ribbons
  • Scrapbooking Materials ("Party Pieces” Simply Scrappin’ Kit by Stampin’ Up! used here)
  • Stamps
  • Ink and Markers
  • Photos

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Decide how many pages the Minibook will be; 4-6 pages thick is recommended. Use binding clips (or other clips or rubber band) to hold all the badge holder sleeves together securely.

Punch extra holes (2-4 holes depending on the style of sleeve) on each edge of the badge holder sleeves.

Tip: A Crop-a-dile will punch holes in up to 6 sheets at a time. Set the depth alignment on the Crop-a-dile to insure holes match up.

  2. Alternately, create holes with a hand held punch, using a ruler and a permanent marker to mark the hole placement on each sleeve.

  3. Step 2

Use a paper trimmer to cut inserts for the sleeves. The size of the insert will depend on the size of the individual sleeves purchased. In the sample shown, the inserts are 2 3/8” X 3 1/2”.

  4. Step 3

Add photos to pages and embellish with favorite materials. Even thin 3D embellishments like buttons, brads and ribbons can be used and will fit nicely in the flexible sleeves.

    >
  5. Step 4

Insert pages two at a time to prevent sticking into sleeves. Secure sleeves with clips. Thread ribbon through all holes, and tie to bind book. Experiment with various colors, styles and materials of ribbon. Even fabric scraps can be used! Use a square knot (right over left, left over right) for a secure knot.

Tip: A drop of adhesive inside the knot can help keep the ribbon secured in place.

  6. Step 5

Affix a loose leaf binder ring or ball chain to your project and your Badge Holder Minibook is complete!

This project is wonderful for a mommy’s brag book (clip to a diaper bag), a book for children to show off pictures of schoolmates or family, or even to create a toddler’s “busy book”.

Great way to use the badges you collect when you attend meetings and/or travel. Can be an add-on brag book, good way to keep the on-the-road friends abreast with what's happening with your family.

Seeing this tutorial listed in this week's issue of the e-newsletter reminded me that I've been wanting to get to a project for Rolodex art. While cleaning out my desk at home I found a package of business card sleeves for a Rolodex and decided to "repurpose" them. My original thought was that it would be nice to have a bit of art in the office Rolodex, just something to bring a smile as the fingers are frantically "tickling" through to find a number. Seeing this particular tutorial reminder got me to wondering if a Rolodex form might be a good base for a book? sab

Hey, has anyone ever found these badges in a larger size? I would love to make this book, but I'd like it to hold 4 x 6 photos.

hi beth

maybe you could try clear envelopes instead of the badge holders...you should be able to get a 4x6 in them...

I bought a packet of badge holders today, but now I've opened them they have slits on the back for pins to go through. Have I bought the wrong kind? Would love to make some of these.

This project is wonderful. I am going to try and make them with my grade three class (fingers crossed) for Mother's Day. If I precut all the paper the kids should have fun decorating the paper and knotting the ribbon!
