Product Description
Perfectly spaced layers and elaborate designs can be created with coordinating sets in the Nestabilities Card Creator collection.

Mix and match detailed, decorative designs with basic layering shapes that are proportionately sized in 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 inch increments. Four decorative sets and two basic sets are available in the fabulously creative A2 sized dies:

• Get back to basics with A2 Matting Basics A to create all kinds of layering in cards, pages and more.

• Expand your basics by using A2 Matting Basics B set for projects where a narrow matting option is desired.

• A set of four A-2 Polka Dots dies add an element of fun in layering projects. Rows of circles add interest, or stencil through the die with ink for extra dimension.

A-2 Fancy Postage Stamps, a postage stamp inspired design, offers many options for creating cards and other projects. Included are ribbon slides, buckles, labels and an adorable little stamp shape.

A-2 Fancy Ribbon Threader is a unique set that is a ‘must have’ for anyone who loves to add ribbon to cards and projects. Fancy edges and details are an added bonus in this four piece set.

A-2 Fancy Weave with its intricate weave cut, this set is a wonderful addition to this collection. It creates a beautiful frame to enhance cards, pages and other projects.

  1. Layers of Perfection

    By Rose Ann Reynolds

I'm always excited for an opportunity to review a new Spellbinders product, and I was especially curious about the new Card Creator dies. As a fan of Nestabilities, I was more than thrilled to find out these dies are based on the A-2 card size, as none of the previous dies are (that I know of). Now I can can create layer upon layer of perfectly incremented mats for the card size I make most often.

The decorative Card Creator dies give options to add pretty layers that work right along with the Matting Basics die sets. I received the Fancy Ribbon Threader set of dies to try out. This set comes with two larger ribbon-threading dies, and two smaller complimentary sentiment dies. These dies cut beautifully in my die cutter, and threading the ribbon through the slots is a cinch! I wish the larger of the ribbon threading dies was a little smaller so that I could have the option for more layers behind it, but it still looks great on a card.

Spellbinders has my vote once again, for coming up with new and useful products to make creating easier. I will definitely be purchasing more of the decorative Card Creator sets to use with my Matting Basics dies.

  2. Creating Happiness!

    By Colleen Schaan

Thanks to Spellbinders, I can now create even more happiness! I’ve long been a fan of Spellbinders dies – top quality and innovative designs, and their latest collection is no different.

The Card Creator collection starts with two basic sets, Matting Basics A and Matting Basics B. Use them alone to create quarter inch matting or combine them for narrower mats. For me, this is the PERFECT die set. I always like to cut and mat my layers, and by combining these two sets, I can get perfectly aligned mats every time. (I even got a little “layer crazy” and started creating telescoping cards… SO easy to do with these sets! )

If the basics are great, the other sets that complete the collection are AMAZING! They look a bit intimidating, but they are SOOOO simple to use, just layer together to make mats, frames or decorative edging. The collection includes Fancy Postage Stamps, Fancy Ribbon Threader, Fancy Weave, and Polka Dots. I received the Polka Dots die (someone must have known my delight for dots) and I have to say… it creates such a fun and whimsical background mat when layered with the Basic Matting sets! I can also use it along with patterned paper to create a more sophisticated layering piece or frames.

The dies are easy to use, and they create beautifully cut and embossed shapes. The layering dies are a bit more intricate and may need a bit of gentle prodding to remove the cut cardstock, but I found that layering a piece of wax paper in-between the die and the cardstock really helped to ease the paper free without bending or ripping.

So thank you again Spellbinders – for creating such a useful and easy-to-use collection! If you want to find me… I’ll be in my studio… Creating Happiness!

  3. Cool Cards!

    By Lori McAree

I was so excited when I learned we were going to do a review on Spellbinders newest product, Card Creator. I had watched the videos and was very interested, but I hadn’t made the purchase yet. I was a bit intimidated because for some reason I wasn’t completely getting it. Once I opened the packages and started playing and realized they really weren’t much different than any other Nestabilities, the intimidation went away!

I received both of the A & B Matting Basics along with the Fancy Postage Stamps. I love all of the different sizes you get with the Matting Basics and if you have both sets you can choose wider or thinner mats which I love having that option! I prefer to cut using my Nestabilities, it is a perfect cut every time and I love the look of the embossed edges if I choose!!

I was so excited to get the Fancy Postage Stamps, it was one of my favorites!! I’ve always liked the postage look!! One of our team members gave us a tip to use wax paper between the cardstock and die when cutting. The wax paper will help the cardstock release from the intricate dies after cutting. I had never heard this before and I forgot all about that tip prior to cutting, but I was pleasantly surprised that my paper popped out of the dies so easily. When I embossed, the cardstock kind of stuck to the mat but I had no troubles taking it off without tears. I just love the patterns and also that the dies are the same size as the mats so you can have a little color underneath peeking through... or not.

Now, I’m just hoping they come out with some fun designs in a square shape!

  4. Layering made easy!

    By Beate Johns

I am in love with the new Card Creator dies! The Matting Basics A and B sets make it easy to layer your cards to perfection. If you have both and alternate the dies, you will get matted layers that are each 1/8" bigger then the last, if you alternate dies from the same pack you will get layers that are a 1/4" bigger then the last.

I am a big fan of Spellbinders dies. I love how deep the embossed edge is on each die cut. It's no different with these dies. I LOVE the decorative die sets that are available in the Card Creator line right now. The largest of the Fancy Postage and Polka Dot sets make beautiful shaped card bases. The smaller dies of those packs, as well as the dies from the other two decorative packs (Fancy Weaves and Ribbon Threader), make beautiful layers for cards.

This collection is another wonderful idea from Spellbinders that makes card making and layering on cards super easy. I can't wait to see what they come up with next!

  5. Move Over Drab Card Bases, Hello Classy!

    By Amanda Havon

When I received my Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics in the mail, I went nuts! I knew something good was coming, but these had me really excited! I have the hardest time sizing my cards to fit in envelopes. In fact, my cards are so many sizes and shapes that I end up buying envelopes in all different sizes and shapes. The Spellbinders matting dies are the perfect solution to that problem and they look so classy, plus now my cards fit into a regular A2 sized envelope!

The layering options with these dies are endless, because they all nest so perfectly. You could pick out one of the larger die's or two, combine it with one of the smaller dies, and the layers will always look perfect together. It's truly foolproof! I created my cards in 10 minutes! (I can't even make dinner that quick!) I will be definitely be using these for all of my cards from now on.

Along with the A2 Matting Basics I received a Spellbinders A2 Fancy Weave template die, and I am really excited about this one too! I have been searching for ways to frame my images and enhance my cards, and this is a great die for that. It has quite a bit of negative space in it, but don't let that discourage you. It has an open, airy feeling like lattice. All of that texture, and the fact I can layer over or under it, really appeals to me! Beate will tell you to place a piece of waxed paper over the die so you can pop everything out easier, and I learned that firsthand. I thought I could do it without the waxed paper first, but the paper got stuck which was a bummer. But when I used the waxed paper, it turned out so beautiful that I know I will be using this die a lot in my future cards!

It's not hard to love anything Spellbinders creates because they really know their products and work hard to fulfill the crafter's need, but I really love the Spellbinders A2 Matting Basics A and B. They are designed to give you quite a range of sizes for any card you would like to create, with the care and quality that we all know and expect from Spellbinders.

I love these dies.  I carry them with me whenever I go to crop parties etc.  I can’t wait to see what comes next.

I think my brain must not be fully functional yet this morning, I read the title of the article and thought that someone had passed away and was wondering why the card said dream big. I think the Spellbinders need a new name for those.

How do the A and B sets differ from the large and small rectangle dies that you’ve had on the market for some time?

Christine, I thought the same thing. I had to look at it several times to finally realize what it meant :>

I saw these demo’d by Stacy and her co-worker who designed them on the Spellbinders website. I found a source and pre-ordered. I’m out of town for a few weeks, but got an email that they’ve been shipped. Can’t wait to get home to begin using them to make Christmas cards. I’m super stoked since I have a very difficult time getting my mats even. This video is very helpful too.

I wish someone would create a cutting die for making an A-2 sized card. I hate measuring!
(And also my straight-edged cutters always warp eventually and leave me with a slightly crooked card.)  How about it, Spellbinders?

Maggie   |  Sat Sep 1, 2012 at 1:20 PM

LOVE this idea and plan to hopefully purchase the basic sets A and B.  My favorite of the other sets would be the fancy weave but all are lovely.

Because the trend is to have lots of narrow layers, I do think that cardmakers will want to have 1/16” increments.  But likely that would mean two more sets at $30 each if Spellbinders creates those.  But I do think that would be wise.  Perhaps that’s what they already have in mind…  Great sales incentive.

I do think having the perfect layers would be worth it, just not having that frustration factor anymore.  I hope Spellbinders will create the sets C and D to create the narrower layer option.

Well-done, Spellbinders, as usual, I’m sold!  Your new line is the best ever, and definitely your dies are the best by far, even though I like and use some other brands too.

I love the new spellbinder dies and hope to get both the A and B sets! I love the other dies that coordinate with them - especially the clever ribbon weaving die.

I’d love it if Spell Binders did come out with a C and D sets so as to create the 1 /16 layering too!

the Matting A and B dies are for cutting A2 cards and all their layers.

beate   |  Sun Sep 2, 2012 at 4:47 PM

All you have to do to make an A2 card is cut a 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock in half.  No measuring required.

Chocolate Lady   |  Mon Sep 3, 2012 at 12:28 PM

I tried the fancy ribbon weaver by spellbinders and I used wax paper with the die, along with a piece of cardstock as a shim , and I had a most difficult time getting all of the little pieces out of the die cut ribbon weaver. I was quite disappointed in that, and yes, I even used a small pointed tool in my efforts to release the bitty parts that stuck. Not worth in it, in my opinon.

I love these dies. They are now a part of my main tool bag. I never want to leave home without them. A MUST HAVE for every cardmaker. Thanks Spellbinders…
