Our Artist in Residence answers your questions
Q: Diana asked: "I am having a difficult time making coasters. The ink bleeds, even the Staz-On® that I use for the outline does some times. Am I not letting it dry enough before coloring or spraying with my fixative? What type of ink should I be using for coloring the images? I've tried SU markers, craft ink, classic inks.

I have baked the coasters prior to inking, and also not baking first. I know there are a lot of thoughts on it but I would like one that really will work and keep it close. "
A: Staz-On should not bleed on tumbled (not glossy) tiles. If you don't want to seal the tile after coloring, I would suggest to color the tiles with Staz-On ink as well as shown in this Tile Coaster Tutorial.

If you don't mind sealing your coasters, which will prevent them from absorbing water, you can use any coloring medium. Just spray with an acrylic sealer when you are done.
Feedback From Past Tutorials
Bahb has a suggestion for the Bordered Sentiment tutorial: "Eclipse is a good masking paper because it has the perfect amount of adhesive to hold tight but not tear the base card when it's removed. It comes as a tape or in sheets."
