Our Artist in Residence answers your questions
Q: Bela asked: "was wondering if you would be able to recommend the ideal paper trimmer? I have several but I cannot say that I am truly satisfied with any of them. I see you using a stainless covered one and you are able to cut precisely and even mid-way on a card. You can score, cut straight lines, do angled cuts without the paper moving and shifting. That, I think, is my biggest pet peeve!

So, I would greatly appreciate input from you, so that I have greater success in paper crafting. BTW, I saw you using the crop-a-dile with such ease that I went and bought one also. However, I have not been able to set the eyelets without their falling out shortly."
A: Thanks so much for your kind words. I use Fiskar's 12" portable Paper Trimmer. I love that tool. The only disadvantage is that you have to change the blades quite frequently. As for the Crop-a-dile, that's another tool I love. I wrote a tutorial for setting eyelets and dry embossing with it a few years ago on my blog. I hope it will help you.
    Feedback From Past Tutorials
Gin has a suggestion for the spirelli technique: "I have done this with a scallop punch, instead of a die cut, which back then, I had never heard of. Since the scallops were not quite as deep, we would snip in between each scallop just a smidge, to be sure the string would stay put. We used silver or gold string, and made some beautiful cards. I was told to always skip an odd number of scallops, like 3 or 5. Also, I ended up doing this with a postage stamp punch, which is square, and it looks good too."
