A Little More About Us (part I)

We made an announcement last Thursday regarding the immediate future of Splitcoaststampers. Have you seen it? You do wanna read this: click here. A number of questions came up, and we addressed some of those in the discussion thread. We also want to tell you about some other things that you may not know, so read on.

Note: this article started out as a simple attempt to explain more about what's in store for SCS in the days ahead, but has since grown to epic, book-length proportions. I'm presenting it therefore as a series of articles to run over the next few days.

To sum up
To sum up the whole announcement, the computer that runs the gallery suffers from the amount of traffic it has to handle. It needs a major overhaul. Restricting gallery traffic for a short time will keep the computer running and reduce the risk of more serious problems. At the same time, we'll be hard at work on a new system. By the end of October or soon thereafter, the smart people assure me we'll have the new system in place and complete access to the gallery can be restored.

We're restricting traffic by placing limits on access to the gallery. These limits will be removed completely once our upgrades are finished, and everything will be returned to normal. Except for one thing. It'll be much better!!! No ironclad promises yet, but once the upgrades are complete, long delays and waits should be a thing of the past. Splitcoast Fan Club members will continue to have unlimited access to the gallery during these upgrades.

We've read every single post in the discussion thread following the gallery announcement, and it's so amazingly nice to hear that Splitcoast has become, for many of you, exactly the kind of place we hoped it would be. Sappy okay, but if you've ever had a vision for something, either large or small, worked hard and been able to see that vision realized, and then have it really mean something for people, well, that's a nice place to be.

But to quote my favorite Carpenter's song, we've only just begun, people! There are so many things we want to do with SCS, and so many ways the site can be improved and made better for you. The changes often come much more slowly than I'd like, but we'll get there.
