My first Coaster Box! Yay! I was very inspired by Jami's gorgeous coaster box: Joy's box top view by Jami at Splitcoaststampers and I followed her suggestion on her blog description of using the Resources tutorial by tayloredexpressions AND the blog tutorial by laurakj for the six-slot dividers http://inkydinkydoo.blogspot.com/200...il-holder.html (thanks Taylor and Laura!). This is a fairly large box when completed, so I like the idea of more slots.
I used two of my Thomas Kinkade stamps for the focal images. You can buy these gorgeous stamps here: http://www.cornishheritagefarms.com/kinkade.php And be sure to check out their forums for helpful tutorials and techniques for using these very special stamps.
I stamped the TK images on 90 lb. hot press watercolor paper using Versafine Vintage Sepia, cut them out with my CM oval cutter and then added some shading for better definition with my blender pen and Close to Cocoa Craft ink. I then applied two coats of Glassy Glaze and did the cracked glass technique, and layered them onto Chocolate Chip cardstock that was stamped and embossed with detail clear EP using the Linen background. The images are popped up on dimensionals.
One of my favorite vintage color combo's is Sage Shadow and Close to Cocoa, so I chose the Sage sheet from the Enchante designer papers for the outside coasters, and the fleur-de-lis sheet for the divider coasters. I applied Royal Coat decoupage finish to the paper with a foam brush to adhere the paper to the coasters, and also as a topcoat for protection. Before the topcoat step, I sponged the edges of the designer paper with Classic Close to Cocoa and used my fluid chalk Dark Brown petal pad to darken the coaster edges.
I really debated about how to attach the bottom. After studying all the different approaches, I finally settled on lacyquilter's technique of using strips of cardstock: coaster box by lacyquilter at Splitcoaststampers Thanks, Melody!
This project was time consuming, but so much fun and I love how it turned out. I will definitely make more of these. BTW, how do you like my upside-down bows? :o)
