I saw a graduation cap box in the newest Oriental Trading catalog and wanted to try and duplicate it. I used the explosion box template from this website, but altered the lid to resemble a graduation cap. I used scrapbook stitches (basically floss) to make the tassel. I plan on using these as treat boxes for my oldest son's class, putting some candy inside them. He will be graduating from elementary school this year. I stamped the "Congrats, Graduate" from All Year Cheer III inside the bottom of the box. Only took me about 10 minutes to make, once I had the pattern straightened out.
The template is in my gallery. For the lid, I traced the template, scored the dotted lines, cut 2 of the flaps and then secured it with adhesive. To make the larger layer, I used a 3.25" square, adhered it to the top of the lid, punched a hole in the center of the top with my paper piercer and stuck the brad through. I tied the floss onto the brad to create the tassle before bending the brad into place.
