AndyJoe,
It's a term I came up for this technique. I don't know if it has another name. I use a light box and lightly trace a rectangle on the CS. I then stamp my image, over-lapping the rectangle in places. I cut out the straight edges using a cork-backed ruler (this helps to keep it from slipping) and an Xacto knife. Then I finish the more intricate cutting with sharp scissors and color the image. I mount this on a slightly larger piece of CS which has a slightly larger rectangle cut out of the middle. I then stamp on a third, still larger piece of CS (this is the background), put strips of extra foam on the back side of the cut-out and mount it on the stamped CS, add any embellishments, and then mount the whole thing on a folded card.
With this card, I didn't stamp the background, but instead mounted the shaped rose on the background CS.
My! That does sound like a lot of work, but it actually goes rather quickly once you have the procedure down.
