I'm your hostess in this week's Color Challenge, and I hope you like the three colors we have to work with: Polished Pink, Lemon Lolly, and Parakeet Party. The dessert option is "Embossing Folder." True confessions, I chose these colors and dessert option with the blackout technique in mind.
While I think I'm probably the last cardmaker to try this technique, I'll give a quick description for anyone who hasn't heard of it. I lightly sprayed a panel of white cardstock with water, then ran it through my embossing machine with a 3-D folder. Then I used small blending brushes on the debossed side (the side where the images are recessed, not raised), with the challenge colors, caring little whether I stayed "inside the lines." (My kind of coloring!) If you notice some peach flowers, that's because I smooshed the Lemon Lolly and Polished Pink inkpads onto my glass mat, then mixed them with my blending brush, to get the peach color. :-)
When all the ink blending was done, I lightly dragged my black inkpad across the top of the panel, trying to keep the black ink out of the recessed areas. Although a little black here and there does give some depth to the image.
I finished the card with a Lemon Lolly pierced frame and greeting and shadow layer, plus a few sparkly gems, and it was done!
I hope you'll join us in this week's Color Challenge, with or without an embossing folder. If you do use one, try the blackout technique! It's really fun and gives a very dramatic result. See you in the gallery!
