For Polly's Texting MIXed media challenge. I used Inktense pencils, regular distress and DOX and gold acrylic paint, along with glossy accents on the dog's spectacles.
We have a house guest, so I got up before work and braved my cold dark attic to prep a full sheet. The base layer is cut up dictionary pages, and then I used the SU Autumn Accents die and cut those from music, a Polish maths book and an old Reader's Digest novel. I wish I'd known what was coming and I'd have got a glue stick yesterday. I was rushing, because of work, so my hands got very sticky with Mono Multi. I had to scrub to get it all off, and then I had to use hand-cream after that, and when I got to work I had to wash the hand-cream off because we can't wear scented products.
Got home from work and die-cut a panel, then sponged it with brown and green to try to highlight the leaf die-cuts. Stamped the top sentiment directly on to this layer, then added some faint gold stars either side of it. I diagonally embossed the bottom corner and sponged with DOX inks. and then tried to work out how to add my dog, since I had fussy-cut him. I was hoping to use some burlap ribbon, but I only see it now as I am typing this, hiding out under the white felt. That's when the embossing came in, and with the little border (trimmed from one of my recent WT collage cards) I thought maybe it looks a little as if he's sitting in bed reading the morning paper.
Fun challenge - thank you Polly.

Your pup has it all worked out - cold morning - why get out of bed to read the newspaper when he looks all tucked up and warm. I can see I must get myself some old books to use when I next pass the second hand book shop.

I was just thinking what Helen said above about the books! I love reading your description of your process. I don't 'do' mixed media (yet) but somehow seem to be slowly amassing the items to do it with! - my subconscious obviously wants to! I've always loved that dog image and you have seamlessly placed him in the panel. Great card - beautiful!
