I made this as a sample for Lisa's WTUI challenge this week, which you will be able to find HERE. When I got this month's free digital for participating in the Gerda Steiner progressive challenge, I knew I wanted to make an anniversary card for my sister - she's a big fan of the film Amelie, and she has a very nice plain stone gnome in her garden.
By the time I was finished matting and layering this ended up 6" square. I started by making the DOX background: blueprint sketch, faded jeans, wilted violet sponged onto white card. Spritzed with water, spattered with gold Twinkling H2Os, and Forest Moss for the foreground.
I sized the gnomes, printed them and coloured them with pencils, matching him as closely as I could to the one in Amelie, then cut them out.
For the mushroom I cut a large half circle, trimmed it to shape and sponged heavily with regular distress - festive berries, fired brick, picked raspberry. I added little white punched circles and ran it through a brocade ef. The stem was just cut by hand, embossed with a woodgrain ef and sponged with antique linen.
For the little jar of light, I cut the TH Wildflower jar from acetate and vellum, and after drawing the fireflies and giving them a little halo of light each, I sandwiched the two layers together with double-sided adhesive. Then I sponged the back of the vellum with squeezed lemonade DOX. I added the little die-cut bow, and made a hanging loop from the thinnest strip of the same dark brown, and hung it from a little white brad. The mushroom is quite dimensional with two layers of foam tape in the centre.
And because the scene seemed a bit bare, I stamped in the wildflower silhouettes in Versafine Clair Morning Mist and added silver glitter Nuvo drops.
Matted onto gold, black and a white base.
TH Wildflower Jar cut from vellum and acetate, fireflies drawn on, back of vellum sponged with squeezed lemonade. Double-sided adhesive sheet sandwiches them together. Hung from a brad, mushroom cap shaped over foam tape. Gnomes coloured with pencil. Sheena Douglass Wildflower stamp stamped with VC Morning Mist, silver glitter Nuvo Drops. TCP sentiment. Background is DOX - Matted on gold and black. 6" square.
