This is my card for Tom, who has spent several weeks in the hospital and still has a long road to complete recovery. We were asked to bring animals to the party - EPEC for a peaceful scene.
I sponged the background layer with various Distress inks, but got a bit heavy handed. My favorite rescue tool - gesso - was mixed with a bit of water and applied with a clean, damp ink blending tool in a circular motion. This really softened up the background and gave it the look of soft clouds.
After the background dried, I attached the die cut with a ballpoint glue pen. The piece was trimmed and adhered to the card base with Simply Defined tape from Scrapbooking Made Simple. If you're a fan of Sookwang (Be Creative) tape, you might want to give this a try. It's less expensive and I find it to be of equal quality.
As always, thanks for looking!

I LOVE that background! As I read and you mentioned heavy handed, I wondered about that until I finished the description. How soft and beautiful that looks. Love the die cut silhouettes too! You really are on a roll there!

Wow Joby this is gorgeous!!! The silhouettes look great and that background is fabulous. Pure genius about the gesso!! When you get a school glue stick for MISTI, you will love it on skinny dies, especially when glued to distress inks.

Absolutely breathtaking scene of the dawn's first light! LOVE how your BG turned out, and appreciate your tip about softening any heavy handed sponging with the gesso!! Did you put the Simply defined tape on the back of your CS before you die cut the trees and deer? or just the glue pen? Was not too clear on that!

Like Nancy, I was perplexed about the "heavy-handedness" of your BG...but it all made sense and I learned a couple of tricks from your wonderful card. I love how your soft colors highlight the beautiful silhouette of your die cut. Stellar card, Jody, and your scene couldn't be more peaceful. Extra cookies for you! Thanks so much for coming to Tom's Teaparty. Hugs from NJ!
