This is not a happy beach..... thousands died here on June 6th, 1944. My watercolor shows Pointe du Hoc which was the highest point between Omaha and Utah beaches which were the beaches where the American forces landed. I've been on an extended vacation in France and England and visiting the invasion beaches of Normandy with an expert guide was one of the highlights of my trip. Sword, Gold, and Juno were the beaches on which the British and Canadian forces suffered great losses as well. My scoring is two vertical lines to stress the height of the cliffs and the two horizontal lines for the exposed vast horizontal planes of the other beaches.

Welcome back, Sallie, your cards have been missed!! Sounds like you had a very interesting vacation, so many of us Aussies head over to Turkey and France to visit the sites of the terrible battles where we lost so many in the wars. Now to your card - beautifully watercoloured masterpiece and the scoring perfect!!

How poignant Sallie. A wonderful tribute card and full of emotion. What debt of gratitude we owe so many who came before us.

This is amazing w/c Sallie. What a wonderful trip you must have had. We need to remember these places and all those men who died for our freedom. I had a father and a step father who served in WWII.

thanks for sharing the story behind this creation....my dad was part of the D-day invasion and lost his right (dominant) arm there on that day.....luckily, he never let it impede his life or activities.......I thought of him and all the others who fought in this devastating and yet important invasion during the anniversary last month.......how cool that you got to stand there and experiience the history

Wow, Sallie, you've captured the beauty and the sadness of this historical place. This is more than a card and I agree that you should frame this artistic piece - it's gorgeous!
