I've been really busy with VBS preparations, but I just had to take some time today for a little ink therapy. I am combining a bunch of challenges to make up for lost time. I'm using this week's pretty color combo and to meet today's challenge to use sand, I'm trying out the sanded pencil background technique. This is also a CASE of this beautiful card by Harriet for this week's CAS featured stamper challenge. I'm also entering this in this week's Less is More challenge to make a one layer card with the stamping off the edge.
I made this card 5x7 as I plan to frame it later. I began by cutting my card out of watercolor paper. I wet the whole front and laid a base wash of Pool Party with some spatter then added some Green to the right bottom corner. I dried this layer of color. I inked my poppy stamp with markers and spritzed with water before stamping a partial image at the bottom then repeated and stamped up higher. I kept the paper really wet and laid more color over the stamped poppies. I sanded the color pencil over this-I love the fine darker spots of color you get with this technique. I used watercolor crayons and markers to add definition back into the poppies which were very vague! I stamped my sentiment in Turquoise. I dried all this then went back again with the markers to add more definition to the poppies. It was all just a little to flat in the bg so I sponged Pool Party through dry wall mesh and markered over my sentiment with Turquoise. I really want to do another in the more vibrant color family that Harriet's original card had, but I had fun with the combo of watercolor techniques with the sanding!

You worked really hard on this beautiful card and it shows! Thanks for describing all that you did to create this gorgeous effect. I'd frame it, too! Lovely!

Gail this is absolutely gorgeous and definitely needs to be in a frame! I love this week's colors that you used and I will have to try the sanded pencil technique. Thank you for taking the time to case one of my favorite cards!
