When I saw the third of the thumbs Audrie shared with us for the IC challenge today, I knew it would be perfect for using the cardinal die DH gave me at Christmas. Also perfect for today's LOVEFEST 2014 challenge from Simon Says Stamp to use any die on our project. I was trying to think how to add the texture and richness of the wall hanging, and went for using the Faux Patina technique.
First I did some wrinkle free distress on my card with old paper, forest moss and pumice stone. Then I used tea dye on the embossing folder. Afterwards I sponged on stormy sky and forest moss, and added some gold and verdigris EP. I masked off the embossed part and stamped the pine bough from Peaceful Wishes with forest moss and tea dye. The MFT branch is cut from wood veneer. I added Cuttlebug Vintage Corners lightly distressed with some gold and verdigris EP, and added Liquid Pearls and Enamel Accents to finish off.
I loved the embroidery I saw on the blog, and would have loved to use that on my card today but I have a ton of other things to do. As it was - I had to make a second cardinal because the one I made when I got the die had just been moved - and after spending a while looking I started another. You guessed it - I found the first one , so I might make another of these with the other half of the gold card base, and add it to my Christmas pile.

What a beautiful background you've created for your eye catching cardinal! It does indeed look like a tapestry. Beautiful card. I am enjoying all the birds this IC has inspired. Especially this one! :-)

What a wonderful technique you have to accentuate the beauty of the embossing folder! (I'll have to try that effect.) Thanks so much for taking the challenge and sharing your lovely design today!

I just sat here looking at the red bird looking at me and knowing how much you love birds felt a close connection with you today! All the different textures serve to ground the cardinal. A visual feast here, Sabrina! May your busy day be full of nurturing.

In the first place -- I love that cardinal. Have not seen this die before and it's WOW. Also, the background you created for the embossed part of the card is fantastic with the subtle changes of color and small bits with the ep.
