I was so intimidated by the MIX18 challenge, but got a nudge from Benzi (who introduced me to this great challenge, thank you Brenda!) and decided to play after all. In a nick of time as the next challenge is tomorrow.
The pieces have been sitting on my craft table for days but I tell you, this economy is crazy. I went from 60 to zero and was twiddling my thumbs for a couple of weeks there. Then this week I went from zero to 60 and had no time to play. Go figure!
So here's what I ended up doing ... since I don't draw, I traced the metal horse accent onto fun foam and cut it out. Used this as my shape and stamped it with bronze and tattered brass Distress Paint as a shadow effect. Traced around that with a Copic Multi-liner in sepia.
The base for the design is TH Coordinations. Have caught the drywall tape bug from watching the MIX gallery, except mine is cement tape. Paint daubered over the cement tape with Jenni Bowlin Studios Malted Milk and then JBS Stick Candy. Sanded it. Then added just a hint of Broken China Distress stain.
The Rusty Tin Horse is from Appaloosa Art Stamps, so am counting it as my Appaloosa for the tea party, thank you very much!
I tore a strip of canvas and inked it with distress inks, topped it with twine. The bottom portion of the card is Viva Decor 3D Stamp Paint layered over their new Maya Gold product. Isn't that product so beautiful?!!
The "moon" is a rusty, smooshed, run over bottle cap that I found in the street many moons ago because I thought it was interesting. I washed it, layered it with Distress metallic inks and then used a pallet knife to put a thin layer of Viva Decor Stone Effect Sand gold to give it craters.
Oh, yes, and all you MIX enablers ... please note that I bought a Gelli plate from one of my customers two days ago. Yikes ... hope that works out! LOL
Phew, long post, sorry! Hope you like my appaloosa mixed media and thanks for looking!
