This will be my Mom's 85th birthday card in November. If there ever was a survivor, it is my Mom. In the last 10 years, she has had three cancers and two surgeries: colon, breast and now endometrial. None of these cancers are genetically related. When she had the colon cancer, she was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It was probably already there, the stress of this cancer brought it to the top. Because of Alzheimer's and her generally weak physical condition, a hysterectomy is not an option. Will this third cancer be the end? Who knows? Every day is a bonus with her.
The Alzheimer's has robbed her of not only her short term but her long term memory also. But when she could remember long term, she would tell us that her high school English teacher wrote this King Lear quote in her year book. It describes my mother perfectly. I know it's a bit dated in terms of how women should be viewed but to me, it's my Mom. We are so blessed that the Alzheimer's has not changed her personality.
Three birds for the three cancers, five pearls just because. I admire my Mom very much and hope I have as much grace in the future as she does now.

Love the card, the symbolism and the quote! My mother's cancer is endometrial as well. I'm so glad for the relationship you have with your mother and hope that you are able to treasure every day you have with her!

This is beautiful. I love the quote. Your Mom sounds like a strong woman and I am sure the apple didn't fall far from the tree. My Mom had alzheimers also so I do understand the impact it has on your lives. Your Mom will love the card.

Bless you for being such a wonderful daughter! I am caregiver for my mother in law and like your Mom, even with the Alzheimer's she is a sweetheart. My MIL has lost her short and almost all of her long term memory. She can no longer walk or even stand sometimes. I cannot even imagine cancer on top of the Alzheimer's. You are amazing! And your card is truly gorgeous!!!

I just read your comments as I was looking at what inspired this card created by jandjccc. What a blessing it was to me going through something similar with Daddy. I needed to read your words...and what a most excellent quote. No matter the age.
