Thanks for the compliments! It's actually holding up better than I thought it would. Here's the directions:
Supplies: a pack of self laminating sheets
1/4" sewing eyelets
eyelet setter
standard hole punch
4 loose leaf rings (Walmart pkg. 0f 5 $1)
vinyl tubing (Home Depot 10 ft. $2.30)
clear vinyl lace (or whatever you prefer) (Walmart $1)
2- 8 x 8 pieces cs for front and back (I cut 4 and doubled up by mono-ing the pieces together to make it more sturdy).
3- 3 x 8 strips of cs (I cut 6 pieces and doubled up).
Design your layouts and stamp your front, back and sides. Just keep it as flat as possible. (No eyelets, brads, ribbon, etc).
Laminate each piece and leave a 1/4" margin for the binding.
I got mine bound at Staples so I didn't have to do it myself.**Do not get the top of the front, side and back bound, just the sides and bottom with the exception of the bottom of the tote get all 4 sides punched.**
Hole punch the 8 x 8 front and back at 1/2" down from top and 1 1/2" from side and set the eyelets. (This will hold your handles.)
Cut 2 11" pieces of vinyl tubing (plenty left over for more purses!)
With a standard hole punch, punch the hole for the eyelets (you will have to punch around the hole for to make big enough for the eyelet to fit). Set eyelet on one end.
At this point you can fill the handle with anything. I tried microbeads but it felt to heavy, then I tried grosgrain ribbon and didn't like that, then I tried rolling a solid piece of paper and it creased, so I ended up punching a bunch of cs and filled it with those).
Set the other side of handle with eyelet.
Over hand stitch the sides and bottom to the front and then stitch the back to the sides and bottom. (I'm NOT a good sewer but I actually did a decent job). **Make sure you sew it tight enough to hold together but not squish the laminate too much.
Attach the handles to the front/back using the loose leaf rings.
Whaaa laa! A cute new purse for you and almost enough supplies left over to make more!
It took a few hours from start to finish. Minus getting the binding done. Have fun!
