When I saw this Inspiration Challenge that involved using a napkin, I had to make a card with one of these Pansy napkins I've been hoarding for years, even before SU! I already had some Hot Card technique images (using freezer paper and an iron with the napkin) in my stash, so I mounted it on white cardstock using my xyron. This is what I came up with also using this week's great Sketch Challenge. I ended up putting the pansy layer under acetate to protect the delicate edges of the hot card paper. This napkin also makes a very pretty candle.
For those who wanted directions:
There are different ways to do the hot card technique. HereÂ’s a link to Technique Challenge #12: Forums at Splitcoaststampers Another similar technique is called Faux Silk, and hereÂ’s that link to Technique Challenge #40: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
But the easiest way I've found is using a very hot dry iron to bond the patterned tissue paper, stamped tissue paper or decorative napkin (only the top one-ply layer) to the shiny side of freezer paper. Put a sheet of copy paper on your ironing board, then the freezer paper (I cut it slightly smaller than the size of my image) shiny side up, then the decorative napkin/tissue paper (pattern side up), then another sheet of copy paper. You don't want the waxy stuff from the freezer paper on your ironing board or iron. You can crumple the tissue first for a more textured effect - I didnÂ’t for this card. It was a long time ago, but I might have ironed the napkin first to make it really smooth before the freezer paper step. If you use large sheets of decorative tissue paper, you can make wonderful envelopes out of it using any envy template. The edges can be prone to coming up if the bond isnÂ’t perfect, which is why I layered acetate on top for protection.

I have some napkins that I, too, have been hoarding. I just knew that I would find a way to use them for something special someday. I am going to try this out today. Thank you so much for this beautiful inspiration and for sharing your technique.
