I had totally ruled out any possibility of combining the WT challenge this week with the first challenge up from our new hostess for September over at CCEE Stampers. Lois asks us to use newsprint on our cards today. But surprising things happen! I made a sample for the WT and then decided to keep it for something else and went back to the drawing board.
I'd made several backgrounds using leaf stamping, and this one made a perfect perch for my Newspaper Owl. I also added some words snipped from a freebie paper - it took me longer to find the words I wanted than all the rest of the card put together.
This is a rowan/ash leaf. I inked it with distress inks, placed it on a sheet of white card and ran it through the Big Shot to get a good leaf impression. With the leaf still in place I laid a stencil over and misted it. (You can also use spraymount to turn your leaf into a sticky mask - but I didn't think I'd ever get it back down in exactly the same place. I used this for some other backgrounds, though...).
I edged it with black and layered it onto an orange Bazzill base. My owl is stamped with Versafine Sepia and then coloured with pencils. His beak is an extra layer popped up. The sentiment is cut from paper, and the speech bubble is popped up on foam dots.
