Hi friends! Just as this card hits lots of challenges, it also is a community effort by SCS friends sharing their talent, supplies, and heart. I couldn't have done it without my 'down the street, across the river neighbor', Lori (ArtzadoniStudio)! Thursday was an art date.
We had decided to make a card for the Ways to Use it out of whatever we made. Well, Sabrina brought us a 'Getting' Waxy' challenge. And Lori is another of those Technique Masters who doesn't mind getting messy! It was her studio, so who am I to object? My Mixed Media piece used the Faux Batik Wax Resist. Basically take a coffee filter, stamp whatever images you choose and emboss. When the emboss is cool, now is the time to use the Brushos. For this one, I sprinkled first and then spritzed with water. I took a baby wipe to dab up the puddles. Once I was happy with the color placement, I used a heat gun to dry the filter. Next step is to paint beeswax onto the front of your filter. The heavier the application of the wax, the more 'batik' like cracks you will have. I painted mine three times. Once cooled, you WAD the filter up as tight as you can. The wax will crumble and fall off. Flatten out the filter and spray the Shimmery Shimmer of your choice. I used a brown that Lori had out on her table. You should be able to see the broken lines of brown all around the piece. That is the batik element. I just love the placement of color and the depth I was able to create on this ordinary paper coffee filter! Once dry, you iron it on the highest temperature to remove the rest of the wax.
This card also fits the MIX365: Collage. Our hostess this week is Polly (peeps321). For what happened after the bg...a collagist dream. I mounted the filter in a wooden embroidery hoop attaching with tacky glue. Added the pom pom trim on the circular edge in a peach color. Dug out a shell from my collection. (DH drilled a small hole in the shell so I could string it to my chenille and sparkly trims).
And this also fits into the Inspiration Challenge, Amy selected the site Ferris Wheels and Carousels. Friends seaside was perfect for my Friends are like seashells: you collect them along the way.
Isn't that the truth? I am very blessed with friends who put up with me, encourage me, cry with me, sharpen my faith, pray with me, and carry my burdens sometimes as well. And of course, laugh ourselves silly! How very rich we are when we stop to consider our friends! Having ARTful friends is just the best. Thank you from the bottom of my HEart!
