I made this card for this week's Teaparty for Chris who is living with her MIL and taking great care of her during a difficult time. When I was taking care of my parents, I found that the flame of a real or electronic candle would help me stop for a moment, focus on the flame and just breathe. It was a small moment, but it really helped me so I wanted to make a luminary card for Chris. I was not sure how to do this, so it took me a while to figure out what to do.
First, I stamped the butterfly image with Momento ink onto a piece of vellum cut big enough to have a 1/2" margin around the butterfly image, and set this aside to dry. I used removable adhesive to adhere the dsp and the peach mat perfectly to each other. Then I lined up the butterfly die and die cut this through the 2 layers. I removed the dsp layer, then placed the die cut peach mat over the front of the card base that was cut at 4 1/4" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2." I used removable adhesive to attach the peach layer to the front of the card base, I fit the butterfly die right into the aperture on the peach layer (it fits into place like a puzzle piece) and I die cut this again. Now, the front of the card base and the 2 layers all have a butterfly die cut opening in them.
Take the vellum butterfly and color the backside of it with copic markers of your choice. I used pink, lavender and green (I am sorry, I forgot to write down the numbers). Now adhere the dsp layer to the peach layer. Then fit the vellum butterfly behind the peach layer lining it up perfectly, and adhere it to the peach layer. Holding the card base and the mat layers up to a window for some light, adhere the front panels to the card base, lining up the butterfly image perfectly. This was easier to do than I thought it was going to be. The back is decorated with the same DSP and peach mat layers.
For the bottom connecting piece, cut a piece of pistachio pudding cardstock to 4 1/8" x 4". On the 4 1/8" side, score at 1/2" on both sides and at 1 5/8" in the middle. Fold the ends up and the middle up too. Attach one end of this folded piece to the inside of the back panel. Then place a piece of white cardstock cut to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" to the inside back panel, covering up the piece you just attached. Then attach the other side of this bottom piece to the front of your card. Now you have created a piece for your electronic candle to sit on and this keeps your card from falling flat too.
Die cut the word piece and cover it with clear wink of stella and attach to the front of the card.
I am also entering this card into this week's alphabet challenge for the letter L for lavender. There is lavender in the dsp and I used lavender to color in parts of the butterfly too.
My thoughts are with Chris as she continues to live away from home caring for her MIL. I have done this myself and know what it is like. Thanks for looking today! ~Karen.
