Our very own Marie (momof5sons) has given us a fun story and lovely destination - Marie's uncle Lloyd Wilson. The Teapotters have been asked to get the hayride back on track!!
One of mums five sons jumped on his pushbike and hurried over to his great-uncle Lloyds farm as he remembers seeing a broken down old tractor last summer when he was there with two of mums others sons. Here he is leaning on the fence and scratching his head to trying to work out how to get the tractor out of the boggy ground. The tractor is in such a bad state of repair, even the rubber is perishing on the tyres.
This was heaps of fun to make, all the colouring was done with distress inks. I started by smacking a Faded Jeans distress ink pad onto a sheet of aluminium foil, squirted a tiny bit of water in one corner and using an aqua pen, coloured his overalls and hat. There was still a lot of ink on the foil so I squirted on heaps of water, then using a foam blending tool, I moped up the blue inky water and lightly swished it over a precut piece of cardstock to colour the sky. I lightly spritzed some water on the sky to give a dappled and cloudy effect.
The tractor and the base for the grass was coloured in the same method using Peeled Paint distress ink. I also used Walnut Stain distress ink on the tool belt, tractor and on the grassy area. Using coloured pencils I covered the green ink to look more like grass.
To make the tractor tyre look old and flaking, I first coloured it with black ink then I applied lots of Helmar 450 quick dry adhesive, just as it was almost dry, I pulled little bits of the glue off.
I fussy cut the tractor and stuck it on the background, it was at the point that I realised the card was too big. I tried to unstick the tractor...bad mistake, the grassy section ripped. I had spent half an hour doing the grass so I wasn't giving up without a fight. I continued to tear the card right across, then removed the middle section to make it smaller. I made it look straggly and purposely put it over the tractor tyre to look like it was bogged.
I fussy cut Maries son (so to speak) added half a bike, made a few little signs, doodled a border, inked the edges with Walnut Stain, mounted it on a white cardbase and now this card is on its way to New Jersey.
Thanks for a fun challenge Marie and thank you for looking ladies.

No wonder you dominated the favorites list! This is fantastic - not sure if I most enjoy the card, the description, or the comments! At least it sounds like this was completed with no bodily harm to yourself!

I am late to comment...so sorry! This is one of your best "fixed an oops" cards! I didn't even notice the tear until I read your details. I love the dirty knees on the overalls...great detail... as little boys are always dirty. Love the tool belt too! The tractor and wheels are awesome...who thinks to apply glue and rip it off, BRILLIANT idea....Your sky ROCKS and I am so impressed with how your mopping up color always turns into an amazing work of art! LOVE this...

Oh, Susie, this is a delight and such a cute card with this little guy trying to fix Uncle Floyd's tractor! I love your stories and could read them forever! You have such a literary gift as well as artistry. I agree that our mistakes often lead down other trails that make it even more charming and interesting. This is one, and I love it! Hugs, sis!
