With all the SCS'ers being turned on to working with copper by Loll Thompson, I decided to get my copper out and play. It's been a long time since I've played with copper and the blow torch.
So to Stiz2003 (Nancy), thanks for the push to play with copper again! Actually I need to say Thanks to Loll too, if she hadn't inspired others, I wouldn't have played with the copper!
Now with copper, if you want to heat it to get it to change color, using a blow torch gives you instant gratification. But you have to be careful, if you heat it too fast, you'll go beyond the wonderful purples you can achieve. The heat gun takes time, but you do have a little more control. Just make sure you do both in a safe place, on a surface that can take the heat or flame. Don't use the heat gun on a hot day, you'll be sweating in no time.
For this card, I used both the heat gun and blow torch. The embossed panel was done with the heat gun. I chose to only heat a particular area. The flowers and leaves were done with the blow torch.
You also need to be very careful with the edges, they are sharp. Die cutting the copper can produce very fine thread of copper that can be a big hazard, so do exercise caution.
In the end, the result is beautiful!
This copper comes rolled up in a plastic tube and is lightweight. It cuts easily with scissors or the paper cutter (use an old blade).
