That was an amazing site Stef directed us to this morning - I've never tried machine embroidery but I love doing hand embroidery myself. I had fun looking through all the categories, and in the end I took my earth-tone palette from this green bag, although I toned the green down a bit. I also thought the iris twist worked with the basket-weave, and my base is a very textured paper that looks as if it were made from coconut fibre.
A2 base, covered with that brown paper. I stamped the grasses with Scattered Straw and Shabby Shutters, chalked in the sky and some green and brown and then cut the aperture for my snail. The body is a pearlescent paper - I think the colour may have been described as mink, the shell is PTI (I think). I went round it with a fine brown marker, added an eye and a Stickles trail which you can probably see better reflected in the piano .
The template for the snail came originally from Circle of Crafters, which sadly was down for ages but appears to be back again.
