I made this card for two challenges: The Tuesday Teapot Challenge and the Alphabet Challenge for the Letter A.
Sue is the hostess for the Teapot Tuesday challenge and she chose a wonderful theme called, "Covered." We are to make a card based on the cover of a book we are reading or intend to read. Fun!
Ann is our hostess for the Alphabet challenge and the letter this week is A. The A's in this card are the animal (the cat), the annual flowers in the flower pot and all the books.
I just read this wonderfully heartwarming book about Dewey the library cat. As a kitten, Dewey was dumped into the book drop off on a very cold night and was nearly frozen to death when found by the library staff. They nursed him back to health and he took to the library like a fish to water. This abandoned cat changed the entire town and the people of this town in an amazing way. The entire time I was reading this book I kept thinking if only more people were like Dewey! The ending is sad, but the book is a wonderful read.
To make this card, I cut 4 very narrow strips of wood grain designer paper and adhered them onto the front of a piece of vanilla cardstock to create shelves. Stamped the images randomly on the shelves, then stamped the cat separately, die cut it and colored it orange to look like Dewey. Colored the images with copic markers and Zig Wink of Stella colored pens. These might be the tiniest images I have ever colored and it was a challenge to do. When done coloring, the card looked really bare, so I took the word stamps from the stamp set and stamped them in the open spaces. The library in my hometown always had vinyl words all over the walls so I thought I would mimic that on this card.
Thank you Sue and Ann for the wonderful challenges and thanks for looking! ~Karen.

Utterly adorable Karen! Your fun design and super happy, colorful images will bring a big smile to a lucky Teapotter. This reminds me of the kiddies corner at our library.

Smiling here...and I do believe I have those stamps too. I'm going to go and check the book out now, it sounds lovely. At least Dewey was dropped off somewhere that gave him some hope. We have friends who once saw a car in front of them open the door and throw something out...and it was a kitten. Zip had a long and happy life with our friends. He was just the colour of your sweet kitty here.
Just thinking of another heart-warming cat book, A Streetcat Named Bob. It's a bio, about how taking in a stray from the street helped a drug addict recover from his addiction. He even came off the methadone because the cat gave him self-worth.

A very cute and creative card. I loved hearing about Dewey. It sounds like a good read. I tried reading a book a couple of times in the last week and just could not get my mind into it. This is a great time to read and to make cards. So far, I made one or two cards. Thanks, for sharing your book.
