Carla is our hostess this week for the WTUI challenge - which you can find HERE. I had made a sample especially for it, but somehow it's a bit meh, so the two birthday cards I made for late July birthdays both fit the bill and I like them much better.
This is a vintage look for a 92nd birthday later this week. I used a brocade ef and the inks listed above for my main panel. I cut the poppies twice from watercolour paper and coloured with Inktense pencils. One pair has glossy accents, the other has sparkle from a clear glitter pen, and the blooms are popped up on foam. I used gold cord to tie them together and added a bow. A doily from ODBD helps them stand out from the background - the back layer is a soft blue, the lacy layer is pearlescent cream. I added a couple of little gold butterflies and the birthday sentiment (I think the die is DoCrafts).

Your bg has a definite vintage feel - both from the colors and the brocade folder . . . .and after all, isn't 92 a rather vintage age to be. I like the bit of whimsy in the fine gold cording tied round your blooms and the doily looking die cut fits the period well and for me brings back memories of learning to crochet in my childhood, making oodles of this type of doily for every surface in our house!

Would you believe it - last evening before going to bed I was looking at faux patina cards and thinking - I can do that!. Since then I have been looking at a really pretty card Snietje (Anita) and now one by you using this technique. I am definitely encouraged to give it a go. They make excellent backgrounds. Love this card.
