I needed a birthday card for a runner who is turning 49. Every year she runs her age in kilometers for her birthday. I have no idea how far 49 kilometers is but apparently it is far enough that she has to break it up into three days. When I looked at the strips on today's sketch I saw roads which was perfect for my card. I copied the sketch into Word for a template so I could put the numbers 1-49 along the roads. That was the hardest part of this card. Then I found some green DP with just a hint of pattern (I think it's tortoise shell) and printed the numbers. I laid down strips of black for my roads and painted a line down the middle of the road using acrylic paint and a ruler. To keep the circle in the sketch, I found another scrap of DP with just a hint of pattern and stamped this Happy Birthday background onto it. Then I cut and colored the runner digi and popped her up on foam squares. The card felt like it needed something else, so I drew on some little tufts of grass around the background. But it still needed something else, so I took out my drawer of stickers and dug through until I found these. That "you are here" one matches my coloring so well, you'd think I planned it!
