Our Monday challenge hostesses have served up a great helping of challenges today. At the TLC, we are creating backgrounds with Acrylic Block Stamping. And over at the CAS, since it's April Fools' Day, we are to create humor.
I think I am a subtle humorist. Often times it's way past the punchline before I get it. So if you find yourself pondering my humor with my ode to 2 very odd artists and a genius...no worries, I'll spell it out for {u}!
For my background I used one of my long rectangles and three Distress Inks. I used a very heavy watercolor paper. It is fun to watch the color mix and mingle without intervention!
My Graffiti creating Salvador Dali, is a tongue in cheek compliment to the anonymous English Graffiti artist and political activist, Banksy. My youngest son introduced me to his work quite a few years ago. This led to many discussions regarding tagging someones property without permission, issues of stealing through defacing, and the other side which are issues that often never see the light of day. I appreciate the art of Banksy's work, but continue to disagree with tagging. Banksy remains anonymous and recently there was an auction of his iconic girl with a balloon where it was shredded as bidding was over!
I gave Dali a gem cuff link and a tag. Graffiti artists 'tag' buildings and then other artists tag over original works and so on. Dali is holding a can of spray paint. I paper pieced it from a scrap of my original panel. He's spray painted an Einstein quote.
Reality
is merely an
illusion
albeit a very
persistent one
I stamped the quote onto acetate and stapled. The card base was dry embossed with the TH 'Brick' EF. It adds great texture.
So my humor is tag: you're it. And how do you feel about graffiti? Do you see it as a different expression of the painterly type? Could we set aside abandoned walls to artistic decoration? Could we encourage a budding artist?
My town has a huge street mural project underway right now. It is called the 20x21EUG Mural Project. Graffiti artists from all over the world have been painting murals all over town for 2+ years now.
If you stayed with me, I thank you. I appreciate your thoughts. Hope to see your art on the walls of our galleries soon.

First off, I just love your long rectangle using this technique. What an interesting read this morning. Of course the brick e.f. totally works as well as this marvelous card you have made. What an interesting Einstein quote! Yes, abandoned walls could look so much better with some decor, I agree!

The brick wall...wonderful, Dali..love those bulbous eyes and that fussy cut mustache.....what a brilliant design! Oh and the tag....inspired! I can see the artiness of graffiti but it bugs me to see it in places where it takes away from the architecture of nearby buildings and landmarks....

I love it! I love the colors and all the cool thought and symbolism that went into this wicked fun card! I don't know Banksy. Will have to do some googling. I do remember hearing about this art that self destructed though. I do not like graffiti because the graffiti we see in our little town is on a natural rock formation in the forest called "Profile Rock". It's a profile in the rock that's said to be the face of Chief Massasoit. Sure would be a beautiful place without all that spray paint. But of course I can appreciate the talent that goes into a whole spray painted mural.

So many wonderful details to take in on this fabulous CAS card, Susan! The acrylic block bg is lovely in the green tones and I, too, would have missed the brick embossing if you didn’t mention it! My Son No 2 gave me a different perspective about graffiti artists, after our many discussions, and I certainly can appreciate their work these days - depending on where it is though.
