Good morning or evening as the case may be.
This card is for Polly's Tickle a TEApotter challenge for this week to use a Van Gogh painting as inspiration and my card is "Starry Night" what a brilliant idea Polly.
I knew as soon as I read the Teapot Tuesday challenge found here; MMTPT497~ January 30, 2018~Lend an Ear by peeps321 at Splitcoaststampers what I wanted to do and what I would use, it was a stencil that came with the Stampendous stamp set and while it was waves it would have worked well. Would have is the key word here.
First I did the background using the Smack & Squirt Technique - one of susie australias favourites but also almost identical to this weeks technique challenge found here; TLC675 ~ Acetate Inking ~ {01/29/18} by k dunbrook at Splitcoaststampers, the only difference is I used baking paper instead of acetate to smack the ink pads down.
The advantage of using baking paper is you just screw it all up when you have finished and pop it in the bin !!!!!!
Really happy with how the background turned out and then went to put the stencil on.....couldn't find it anywhere, searched high and low crawling around my craft room floor patting the carpet.....eyesight isn't that good it was after midnight and the stencil was a thin clear one. After 3/4 of an hour I though I wonder if I through it out with the baking paper and sure enough there it was completely screwed up in the paper. I quickly flattened it out and hit it with my heat gun then sandwich it between my Big Shot cutting plates and weighed it down with a house brick (yes I have a house brick in my craft room, it's amazing what you can use it for) I then went to bed.
Fast forward to next evening, I was completely over the stencil thing and decided to use the wave stamp in the same set but first I stamped Santa and his sleigh and the greeting and went over them with clear embossing powder then stamped straight over the top with the wave stamp wiping the ink off the stamped image. I highlighted the wave / clouds with silver Wink of Stella and then again with white Wink of Stella. the misty stars were created by smooching Distress Oxide - Antique Linen and then going over this with Distress Oxide - Twisted Citron using a smooching brush and the rest they say is history.
If you managed to get to the end of this tale hope you had a giggle and or learned something ie; check your backing paper before you toss it.
Cheers Marg

Wow Marg, truly a fantastic end result after all the "fun" searching for your stencil (been there myself a few times ha ha)! A gorgeous scene with Santa flying over the village through the starry night. Love how you used the challenge colors!

Awesome, Marg!! I got to the end of your story and got a chuckle about the brick and you on the floor. Having a brick in your craft room is an excellent idea and I may just get one!! When I saw your card, I knew it was inspired by "Starry Night"; one of my favorites! Your background is awesome in color and design. So glad you found your stencil! You and I have in common the down on the knees patting the carpet searching for a clear stamp or stencil! I've starting using a lint roller to rub on the carpet to find my clear stamps!! Love your story and the marvelous card, sweet lady!

Truly wonderful take on the painting and love that fantastic BG! It is funny how we lose something then come up with another plan and then to see it transform is incredible.

Now you are sounding like Miss Susie---LOL-- With all the steps you did, was worth it as your card came out so very nice---looks great with the glitz and shiny stars in the sky.
Your background is stunning! This really draws you in! The color is amazing. As crafters we do go through some stuff, don't we?! I am always losing something. Nothing worse than knowing you just had an item in your hand. Hmmmm, I might have to ask hubby to get me a brick for my craft room! LOL Hugs!

Oh my Marg, I don't think I've ever thoughy "santa" when seeing that Van Gogh, but you have totally sold me on the idea. Awesome card.
Enjoyed your story as well -- it's always reassuring to find I'm not the only person who "loses" things in my classroom -- Just this evening I wasn't able to find a stamp I wanted for this challenge -- and I'd already used it two days ago. AFter I'd changed my idea and didn't need it anymore, I found it -- it was a clear stamp and I'd put it on top of the package and was literally looking through it and not seeing it.

Brilliant idea, and a great result after all your travails. Those clear stencils are so easy to mislay, I have some small TH masks which have got lost several times, thankfully never scrunched up. I'm glad you found yours even if you didn't get to use it on this in the end.
I thought Karen's technique was slightly different in that she was suggesting using the acetate in your hand to apply colour to the paper on your desk, so it offers a little more control than Susie's...but I certainly didn't manage the level of control that she did!

Grinning from ear to ear over your story! Been there, done that! Pure Genius to use the wave stamp from that set. I love when creative people think outside of the box and created something totally amazing and delightful. So glad to see you using your talents and sharing them with us!

so neat, and loved your story and for the tips and tricks...plus I like the idea of a brick in your craft room....would be handy I bet many times. I learned that with my recycle bin, as I think I lost a die-cut that fell in there when I dumped it....so now I check it too. I havent tried that bg style that you and Susie use a lot, will have to give it a try, makes a wonderful bg....TFS..:0)
