Nancy Williams (nwilliams6) set up another challenge to make a valentine card using the set Natural Beauty. Boy, did I struggle! I was going to go traditional colors with red and white, but I just could not make anything work. So on to plan B -- change the colors -- I went with blues. I never have trouble using blue.
I started by making a background smooshing distress oxide inks and water. I also flicked on some white and ground espresso distress paints. I sponged the edges with vintage photo distress ink.
The butterflies are sponged with salty ocean distress ink, cut out, and then edged with blueprint sketch distress ink. I also blackened the bodies. I stamped the butterflies on the background and then mounted the cutouts on top with dimensional foam tape under the wings. For the little hearts, I dragged salty ocean over a white strip of cardstock, punched the hearts and sponged the edges with blueprint sketch. I crocheted the edging with a variegated thread. I was really nervous about hand lettering the sentiment, since I tend to mess up by misspelling words, but I managed to get it all on there OK. Whew! I really love how this turned out.
I can't wait to see what Nancy does with this challenge. I will add her link once she posts, so you can see her gorgeous work.
Here is Nancy's card. I love her corrugated hearts and all the flowers and butterflies cut from smooshed inky paper. So gorgeous!
If you have this set, come and play along!
