I made this for Janelle's MIX244 mixed media challenge today. Thanks to the early post, I was able to make a cling-wrap background using spray starch and Brusho acyrlic mists (dark brown, sand, plus some moss green powder) and leave it drying while I went and visited a friend. Unfortunately by the time I'd embossed it (Sizzix ef) it's hard to see! The overlay was also cut from a piece of cling-wrap background which I'd made last weekend and not used. I punched leaves from part of it too, coated them with a clear glitter pen and then drew on some outlines and veining with a black pen. It looked better before I decided to stick down a feather, but once one was stuck on, I was committed - so I added another leaf and a tag punched from the same background, and a few dots of gold stickles.
Before all this finishing work, I die-cut the oval window in my brown piece and embossed it.
The curtains are made from piece of tissue misted with gold shimmer spray, and then stamped with leaves when it was dry. I used a large oval die, then cut it almost in half up the centre and gathered it up, using gold cord as tie-backs.
The little owls were stamped on a scrap of watercolour paper and coloured with Polychromos pencils, plus more glitter on the moon. I wet the background and used faded jeans to colour it.
