This card is for this weeks colour challenge hosted by Mary who has given us a wide range of colours to choose from. The dessert is to make your own backgrounds.
I have used all the colours and created two separate backgrounds one on the main body of the card (the brick wall) and then the sky behind the tree.
This card has already been given away as it was for my step son's birthday. He has just finished building a retaining wall at his place and one of his hobby's is Bonsai, he has four amazing bonsai trees that are getting quite old now and look marvels.
As I mentioned last week it is autumn here and these colours lend themselves to autumn very well. Using the Mint Macaron for the sky makes it look a little stormy and was created by masking areas randomly with the memory box puffy clouds but first masking the tree.
The tree was stamped with Delightful Dijon then randomly and very loosely coloured with corresponding copic markers to the SU colours. they being ; YR24, W-3 & W-5, G07, G14 & G12, R08.
The brick wall was done by stencilling from the centre out with Tip Top Taupe then going over this while the stencil was still in situ with Versa Mark watermark removing the stencil then covering the whole area with clear embossing powder, it has made the bricks very shinny. I gave the greeting the same treatment by stamping with Delightful Dijon then over stamping with the watermark and heat embossing ... twice. I mounted the framed tree on some craft foam.
This card was inspired by Jennifer McGuire you can find her tutorial here; http://www.jennifermcguireink.com/20...echniques.html
The main one was "Idea 6 - Heat Embossing". and that's all folks, hope you come and play along with the challenge.

such a pretty wall background Marg-great coloring on the tree image- and how thoughtful to make a birthday card for your stepson that mimics his hobby and his recent wall building project

Beautiful card, Marg. The brick wall is so appropriate, and I love the coloring on the tree. I envy your step-son's success with Bonsai trees. I love them and have a black thumb.
