Maura is our Color Challenge hostess this week, and she has asked us to use four colors: Soft Sky, Pacific Point, Wild Wasabi and Crumb Cake. The dessert option is “at the beach.”
The dessert challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to bring out a favorite set that I have used very little, Wetlands. I also pulled out my old SU craft inks and used Chocolate Chip to stamp the sandpipers, then clear embossed. Since I donÂ’t have Wild Wasabi in craft ink, I used a very clever trick I read about somewhere on the Internet. Using my MISTI, I stamped the sea oats several times in Wild Wasabi, then without moving the stamp, I cleaned it off and stamped onto it with VersaMark, stamped and inked over the greenery, then clear embossed and heat set. Did the same again for the second clump of sea oats.
The watercoloring was a challenge for me, since my set of Gansai Tambi watercolors doesnÂ’t have colors that are exactly like the challenge colors. So I used a white palette, and made a valiant attempt to create the colors by mixing various other shades. I am fairly well pleased with the results.
Special thanks to my friend, Roberta (stampinÂ’nana) for the suggestion of using the Itty Bitty Backgrounds stamp (IBBG) for the speckles in the sand. Very realistic and easy to do!
To finish the card off, I added some whitecaps to the ocean with a white gel pen, and a trio of sea birds to the sky with a black marker. Tied it all up with linen thread, layered onto Crumb Cake and then a base of Pacific Point. Done!

Yay for you, Barbara! You used that super simple stamp set to create a nice pattern of sand. I will never get rid of mine. Beautiful beach scene; Love how your water and sky turned out! So realistic!
