For Dina's MIX116 Fill It In challenge.
I had started this mixed media background last night, and today I was going to add red poppies to it. Instead, I added my bird. But only because I was so focussed on all the masking and working out the position on a plain piece of watercolour wash background that I forgot to remove some of the ink before I stamped the bird the first time. That's another card waiting to be made...
So, I did all my careful positioning again and this time remembered to wipe off the ink on the bird's breast!
For the base - it was some watercolour paper that had huge splashes of masking fluid on it, so I washed it with Twinkling H2Os in gold, yellows and green. Then I used some gesso through the diamond stencil, and then I used Lee-Anne's stencil monoprint technique to stamp the art deco leaves. I'd never been happy with this stencil till last week, when, totally inspired by Lee-Anne, I had tried stamping with it.
So this morning, I stamped the bird, embossed with clear EP, masked, stamped and embossed the treble clef, stamped the sentiment. I added some little leaves along the treble clef and coloured the bird with Twinkling H2Os, and then went for coffee with a neighbour while it dried. I ran a tracing wheel round the edges for a little definition, layered it onto corrugated card stamped with the treble clef in green, and then used a yellow card base, sponged with Mustard Seed to deepen the colour a bit for a better match with my mixed media panel.
Oh - my filling in part? I used little music notes to fill in the blank part of the bird's breast. Sorry, I'm just not a doodler!!

What a gorgeous piece of art! I know it was a lot of painstaking work, but so worth it! I love EVERYTHING about this card, and the incredible amount to creativity that went into it. Straight into my favorites!

Your little musical notes are perfect for this colorful songbird and also appropos for the quote! Love how your stenciled bg turned out and your framing is wonderful.,...the distressed edging and the corrugated paper add interesting texture to your piece.

Your musical notes are the perfect doodles for this. I love your mixed media background and the feather shapes as well as the treble clef for a branch. Awesome!
