A wonderful fun challenge from Jenn for the TLC today ~ Die Cut Stencils.
I've often used the negative from punching or dies as a mask, but this is the first time I've made something that looks like a stencil I would buy ;-).
And better yet - it's actually left over by accident from cutting a lot of chevron strips for something on Saturday, and it was still sitting on the floor by my Big Shot. Perfect to use for this challenge. I sprayed one side lightly with Spray Mount and left it for about ten minutes to make it tacky. Then I placed it over my white card. Didn't have time to mix a rainbow of homemade misters, so I swiped over the whole thing with Versamark, and then scraped chalk pastels over it. I brushed them in, sprayed with fixative and removed the mask.
I always hate covering up to much of a background I've put time into making, so I simply stamped a large sentiment and added some raindrops. Yay for me, the last two cards I wanted them for I couldn't find them but today I remembered where they were. For the base I used a Fiskars texture plate inked with black to make a stormy rainy background. Both panels are edged with a black pen, and the rainbow is popped up on foam.
When I used to work in import and distribution of fine art supplies, we used to stock something called Oiled Manilla, which was sold for making stencils. I must investigate if it's still available, or even if I have a sheet downstairs somewhere.
