Julia gave us the challenge of creating a "remembrance" card in honor of Veteran's Day today. I chose a poppy image since one of my vivid childhood memories is veterans selling these bright red-orange crepe paper poppies that people would pin on their lapels after purchasing. I think the symbolism came from the "poppy fields of Flanders". If I'm wrong, please correct me. Most of those veterans have passed on, but it was a lovely tradition. Last night watching an NHL hockey game, I noticed 2 coaches from Columbus, OH had stylized red poppies on their lapels and I wondered if it was in honor of veterans.

These poppies are stunning and so, so striking!! Yes, we wear poppies here for the few weeks coming up to the 11th of November - last year one of those gentlemanly veterans gave me a huge poppy to wear instead of one of the little traditional ones and I absolutely loved it, though I couldn't find it again this year. Beautiful bg too, Sallie!

Your card is GORGEOUS! I just LOVE those poppy images! I remember going to the supermarket with my mother and the Vets would be outside selling those paper poppies. My mother NEVER walked away without purchasing one. I am the same way today, although haven't see them as often as I used to.

Love the look of the embossed bg where I think you must have sanded?? or added some ink over the top. However you did it, it looks great and I love your coloring.

Poppies remind me of Veteran's Day, too. Whatever happened to the veterans that sold the paper poppies on this day? I miss that, and having the opportunity to thank them for their service.

Oh Sallie, this is sooo pretty. Your poppies are just beautiful - I think they are your signature flowers. You always color them so well. Now that you mention the poppies being sold, I do remember that as a kid. I don't think I've seen that being done for many years now. I'm glad the Bluejackets' coaches wore one.
