"The Sound of Music" is on this evening Easter Sunday on ABC Family Channel. A wonderful movie for all ages.
I recently reviewed the film "The Sound of Music". This film was a favorite when I was a child. I was moved to create this card, not to offend, I used its creation to try to sort out in my own mind and heart what the world went through during that difficult time. The film has a powerful message of hope, desperation, and help through self-sacrifice. I strongly recommend dusting it off and viewing it with your family.

I don't often comment on cards but I just have to here. I think art should promote conversation and yours has. Great job. I too am sorry you are taking heat for posting it.

I've given this card a lot of thought over the last few hours. I am a English Lit student and am constantly challenged to take art (literature in my case) and think critically about it. Your card has given me the opportunity to think about the era, Nazi Germany, the role or lack thereof the Church played, the movie, those who had the means (money and opportunity) to escape and those who didn't, etc. This card has provoked a strong desire in me to further explore, critically, the implications that art, in this instance The Sound of Music, provide with regard to this historical period. THANK YOU!

I have looked at your entire gallery and think you are a very talented individual. This ATC shows your ability to evoke emotion and thought through your art, it is my hope that people take a few minutes to try to understand your art.
Thank you for posting your art here, it is amazing!

I've never left a comment on a gallery item at SCS before but felt you had done such a terrific job depicting the topics contained in this movie you deserved credit for your artistic interpretation and work. As the earlier poster said, "art should promote conversation and yours has" to your credit. I'm also sorry you've taken heat for posting it. Thank you for sharing your work with us.

I think this is really an awesome piece. It speaks a million words. Sometimes people just don't "get it". That's ok. They don't have to get it, but they don't have to promote censorship either. Your work is really amazing.

My Mom (born in 1929) grew up on Poland during the war. I found the ATC startling but my first thought was that it embodied so much of what my Mom went through.
The Sound of Music has been one of my favorite movies since childhood, but your card seems much closer to my Mom's experience: the fear invoked by the swastika and the faith and church that kept her family going through so much. The Nazis closed all the schools in Krakow, where she lived, but the local nuns in a nearby convent risked their lives to teach girls in her neighborhood in secret.
My Mom's experience was far closer to the tone of your card than the sunny, hopeful, romantic feel of the musical. I found that contrast thought-provoking, as those unable to escape Austria, Poland, Hungary or Czechoslovakia as the Von Trapps managed would likely have lived through an experience far closer to that of my Mom's. I appreciate your ability to evoke what so many millions endured.

It shows a deep and thoughtful person, to create artwork to reflect the inner struggles this caused you. Thank you for adding your explanation, as it does help to know where you are coming from, for those of us who may not be quite so deep!
