I know when people hear that I'm from Minnesota the first thing they think of is the cold and snow..and yes, we do have that. Infact we've been in a cold snap for the last week or so..I've worn my long underwear a lot lately. But for me, it's all about the LAKES! As our license plates tout, we are the land of 10,000 Lakes. Actually the true number is 11,842 taking into account that they include everything..puddles, standing water, wishing wells... I was amazed by the fact that in the Twin Cities where I live there are 31 lakes within the city limits of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Minnesota is a Dakota word meaning clear blue water. I grew up about 20 miles from the Cities and we had a lake across the street
I guess I was in a silly mood when I came up with this card. The couple stamp came from Francie (f.schles)...I gave it a comic book sort of treatment backing it with the big polka dots. I added the text of the bubble...I had quite a few ideas I could have used but thought this would be funny especially if I paired it with a fisherman in a boat. My background is a gelli plate one I had in my stash. The fisherman is a combo of 3 stamps that I cut and pieced together.
A funny aside...my parents had a speed boat before I was born. My dad would always say that the two best days in owning a boat are the day you bought it and the day you sold it. LOL..Thanks for looking! And come visit Minnesota (in the summer of course) and check out all our lakes!

This literally made me laugh out loud! I love the message you put in the speech bubble (that is a very cool stamp!), and your little fisherman. One of our nephews lived and worked in Minnesota for a number of years and loved it. We have a lot of lakes in this part of Michigan, as well, but not as many as you!

Polly this is awesome, funny and well-executed. And, I really love the story behind it. I have had many visits to Minneapolis as that is my company's corporate headquarters and it sure is cold for a California girl! But gotta love all of those lakes.

What a fun card, Polly! Love the background, the fisherman and the funny cartoon in the background! Loved Minnesota, especially since it's the first time I ever saw butterflies land on people!

What a wonderful typically "Polly" card. Wow, that's a LOT of lakes. There is one county here that allegedly has a lake for every day of the year, but some of them must be pretty tiny, and it pales into insignificance compared with your total. The gelli print makes a wonderful watery background, love the ric-rac waves too.

Smiling big time....this would be a perfect retirement card. Yes, you do have a great amount of lakes. You are a great storyteller....on your cards, and in your writing. Enjoyed your little corner of the world. I wonder how many fish stories have been told about a BIG fish caught in one of those lakes. This winter so far, has been pretty mild, yes there is lot of days to go yet! Thanks for sharing, my neighbor to the west.

You had me smiling with that caption! I remember several times digging for night crawlers as a youngster! Beautiful lake water bg, Polly! I take it you have your pick of places to swim and fish~

I'm still laughing! This is great fun and really shows your love of the water. I cannot imagine the size of Lake Superior .. it would cover about one third of England!

Love this, Polly! The "silly" is terrific, and you do live in a beautiful state. My stepdad is from Minnesota and I've been lucky enough to visit a couple of times. Wouldn't trade winters with you, though!

Oh my goodness Polly, I am laughing at your saying puddles, standing water, and wishing wells are lakes. Thank you, I really needed that laugh!!!! Super cute card and great way to show Minnesota! Yes it has been mighty cold up north here...maybe I should look in to some long underwear too! It has been many years since I was in Minnesota and it was only for work for 1 night...I should go back for a fun trip. Hugs, Lisa
