This is a special card for a friend who is going to be a grandma for the first time. She has been patiently waiting for along time. She asked me to make a card for the shower that would be a keepsake. I knew right away what card I would make. I made all four of my grandkids this card for their baby showers. They don't know what sex the baby is, so this makes it a little more difficult for color choices.
I choose lavendar and just a touch of mint green. Embossed panel with border folders. I sponged around very lightly with the green. Made the envelope from a sizzix die. Tag was made and penny glued to it. Computer generated sentiment, and inside of card. Added the ribbon, lace, and buttons. The inside of the card reads:
Here's baby's first penny
So shiny, bright and new.
Just starting out in life
Like newborn babies do.
It's meant to be good fortune
During the years that lie ahead.
To be treasured as a Keepsake
Until my grandchild is wed.
Then on the day most special,
With "something old and new"
The bride is meant to carry
Alucky peeny in her shoe.
Whether she should be my grandaughter
Or my grandson's intended wife
The promise of good fortune
Will charm their marrried life.
You need to find a new penny from the year the child is born. I don't remember where I got this verse.
Sorry this is so long. tfl

Gracious, I don't think I realised you were old enough to have grandchildren! The colours from your inspiration are perfect for a gender-neutral card. And I am forever kicking myself for not having got those little embossing folders while they were available. I think maybe I was only just getting into the Wizard at the time.

Oh Linda, I love your work so much! This is indeed so very precious. These days I think people are saving the special handmade cards because it is so rare receiving hand made and written mail.

What a fabulous keepsake idea! I have seen this poem before but never would have thought to make a handmade card with a special little pocket. Love it!

Linda this is nothing shy of amazing!! Every bit of texture, every layer every ribbon is just spectacular. The sweet poem brought a tear to my eye. I don't expect any grandchildren anytime soon, but will keep this in my faves (and in my heart!) for if and when my men think that it is time. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
