I was inspired by this necklace, I liked the white against the dark blue and the way the reflection in the bottle gave a multicolor look.
To create the background I inked up an acrylic block larger than the panel with a Big and Juicy stamp pad (itÂ’s about 5 x7 with multiple ink colors) and misted heavily with water and placed onto the watercolor paper; the water and ink creates an allover wash of color. Use a paper towel to blot off excess water.
Next ink up a second time and mist very lightly, none or not many beads should show on the block, if you get a few itÂ’ll add a circle watermark. If you donÂ’t want the watermark touch a paper towel to the bead of water to absorb it from the block before stamping.
The fun of this technique is that you never know what youÂ’ll get and itÂ’s fun to watch the paper change as the color absorbs. Keep in mind that each paper texture will have different results. This particular watercolor paper has a fine linen weave to it. I also tried it on perfectly smooth and heavy textured and the results were totally different.
Wait for the panel to dry before stamping.
I heat embossed the flower images and the butterfly but didnÂ’t like the butterfly results so I covered it with an embossed vellum image and had to use brads to attach it.
I did post some photos of another card I created using this technique which shows the inked up block in the two steps and some different effects using a variety of papers, you can see the blog post here.
